Ankle Fusion that resulted in a nonunion requiring more surgery
Posted by: Jacqui Hernandez at 1:16AM EST on February 3, 2010
Hi, I had an ankle fusion in April 2009 and it didn't fuse. I am going to have surgery again in Feb 2010. No one is sure why this happened? Has anyone had this problem and was the 'redo' successful? I'm super anxious that this is going to be a never ending problem. Thanks...

BILATERAL KNEE REPLACEMENT
Posted by: Tia McGlothin at 9:13AM EST on January 22, 2010

my husband is facing bilateral knee replacement we are both afraid of the difficult time he will have for recovery and wonder what the length of time he will need for recovery before returning to work he is a job super. for a construction co and spends most of his time driving, along with some time in the office.  i have stressed to him the importance of losing some weight and exercising  as much as possible before the surgery which will take place in about 6 wks. could anyone give us a little insight on this procedure and how common it is to replace both knees at once.  will i be filing for divorce after this harrowing experience!!!!

thanks

Need to Reconnect-To Stephanie
Posted by: Patricia Wheatley at 7:19PM EST on January 14, 2010

Stephanie,

It's fantastic you have discovered a real passion for the following:

- You have a real compassionate heart.  -You founds omething that makes you feel charged up!   --You help numerous people, that in turn bless your life.  --You've increased your knowledge of the dieseases you have been diagnosed with. Be proud of yourself!  And now, listen to your body.  Pace yourself and when your body reacts negatively, take a break and connect in other ways. For example, write a article and submit it to the Arthritis Foundation or your local newspaper or health foods store. Connect on the internet and chat with others. Write petitions to your senators to fight for your health rights. Meditate and invision your body well and powerful.

In addition, our adversities can reveal alot to us.  Take the time and allow that to happen.  Focus on a greater power.    Patricia

NEED TO RECONNECT. SUGGESTIONS??
Posted by: STEPHANIE SCHAAF at 6:14PM EST on January 12, 2010
I'M 32 YEARS OLD. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH JRA WHEN I WAS 4, EPILEPSY WHEN I WAS 12,  AND LUPUS WHEN I WAS 21. SHORTLY AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED WITH LUPUS, I DECIDED TO EDUCATE MYSELF ABOUT ALL 3 HEALTH CONCERNS, WHICH LED ME TO THE LOCAL ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION CHAPTER. I DID SOME VOLUNTEER WORK IN THE OFFICE AND STARTED MEETING AMAZING PEOPLE. I PARTICIPATED AT THE A.F. WALKS, BEGAN PUBLIC SPEAKING AT GOLF TOURNAMENTS & FUNDRAISERS, MEETING WITH PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES, AND IN 2002,  I ORGANIZED A YOUNG PEOPLES ARTHRITIS SUPPORT GROUP. I TESTIFIED BEFORE THE C.A. LEGISLATURE, I INTERACTED WITH MUTLI-MEDIA RELATIONS & CONNECTED WITH GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND DISCOVERED MY PASSION AND PURPOSE IN LIFE. I LOVE ADVOCATING ON BEHALF OF KIDS/YOUNG ADULTS WITH ARTHRITIS! MY HEALTH STARTED TO RAPIDLY DETRIORATE, SEIZURES STARTED AGAIN AFTER 10+ YRS, & ORTHO-SURGERIES FORCED ME TO STOP BEING ACTIVE. CURRENTLY, MY PHYSICAL HEALTH HAS IMPROVED, BUT I FEEL DISCONNECTED & INCOMPLETE WHEN I'M NOT ADVOCATING. ANY SUGGESTIONS?GUIDANCE?
MTX and night sweats
Posted by: linda macdoanld at 12:07PM EST on January 12, 2010

I have been on methotrexate since August 2009 -- started with night sweats in October and still going strong.  I have questioned whether related to the mtx but rhuematologist says no -- since I am 45 says age related/perimenopause issues.  I am on 20 mg per week.

I am interested to know how many others on mtx had had night sweats and hot flashes on this drug.

I am still trying to find a solution . . .

I was diagnosed with RA 8 months ago and am being treated with methotrexate at this time.  I have started having hot flashes and night sweats.  What have other women tried that has worked for them.

Continued knee pain
Posted by: kristin pehl at 10:38AM EST on January 7, 2010

I posted an entry weeks ago and it never appeared. At that time I had talked about the pain I also have since Total Knee replacement nine months ago. I am 50 and at this point in time, STILL in constant pain. My surgeon did not understand why I would have pain after four months. I went to a second doctor for another opinion. He tried many diff things--xrays which showed as he said, "an almost perfect knee", checked for infection, shot cortisone under the knee cap, EMG testing, and finally a test for allergies to the many diff metals and cement. Found nothing over three months. I did have to have a second manipulation but the pain still there and being close to full bend now once again, regressing.  In the last couple weeks I have spoken to an old high school friend who had an older sister a few years ago with many of the same problems as me. After many tests, they finally went in and scoped and found debris from the surgery which will not show up on regular xrays or other tests. The doctor went in and cleaned the knee out and she recovered totally after that.

I am going in for a scope in a couple weeks.

arthritis in the bladder?
Posted by: Margie Pigg at 8:55PM EST on December 29, 2009
Hello. I have been having problems with what I thought were kidney stones for about a year.  Last month I saw a urologist who noticed in a CAT scan that I have swollen lymph nodes in my pelvic area. He did a test and determined that I have arthritis in my bladder.  Have any of you ever heard of that? I haven't.  I also have lupus and usually blame everything on the lupus, but can't quite figure this one out.  I still have the swollen lymph nodes and am bleeding quite a bit. I am going to see a gynecologist on Thursday and am a bit concerned about that. I am so curious about all of this. I have had lupus for 14 years and it seems that I will never learn everything about this tricky disease.
