The opposite knee DID improve as my doc predicted. And yes, as you have asked, of course my activity level did increase (hooray) as now I can enjoy walking and standing for much longer periods of time. Perhaps it should not surprise me so much that what happened so early to my knees, should be happenning in the early range in other joints. (I think I will continue to be surprised until my age finally catches up to my conditions - ah well).

Re: joint replacement affects other joints?

Logically the opposite should be the case. Getting one "part" replaced should take pressure off the other joints. Prior to the surgery, because you were moving so poorly, you were probably putting extra stress on the hip. On the other hand, maybe your movement was so limited before the surgery that you were not doing much of anything. By getting the knee done, have you greatly increased your activity level?

joint replacement affects other joints?

Just wondering and musing here. I had a total knee replacement about 20 months ago. At that time, the opposite hip had some symptoms of OA, but the hip above the knee I had the surgery on really was fine (from my perspective. if range of motion had begun to be limited, it hadn't hit my radar screen yet, nor was there pain) About five months ago, OA descended with a vengeance on the hip above the replaced knee. So, I am wondering if these phenomena are related? Has anyone had a similar experience or has heard or read anything related to a replacement joint hastening the progression of the deterioration in any other joints??
