OA in the Jaw Joint

I have been suffering for years from OA in the jaw joint. My doctor is now telling me that it's time for a total joint replacement, and I'm a little nervous. It there anyone out there that's suffering with this. I'd like to hear your story, especially if you've gone through the total joint replacement. I have visions of looking like some bad villian from an old James Bond movie after the surgery and really need to hear that it's not that way.

By the way, because I suffer from OA in the jaw, I have to battle my insurance company for every procedure to be covered because they automatically assume that the diagnosis in TMJ syndrome instead of OA. Does anyone go through this too?

Finding good doctors in Texas

My partner has palindronic arthritis, and it seems to be getting worse. We live in Austin but have begun discussing if it makes sense to travel to Houston or Dallas to see specialists. Are there better doctors or more resources in those areas? Can anyone recommend a good doctor/medical center either in Austin, Houston or Dallas?

Vioxx Refund Announcement

Merck is currently offering a grace period to patients who would still like to receive a Patient Return Kit to request a refund for unused VIOXX that remained unused as of September 30, 2004. This grace period ends at 8 pm Eastern Time (5 pm Pacific) on Friday, April 15, 2005. All kit requests made on or before March 31 have been received and will continue to be processed. Kits from customers who have already returned product and/or requested a refund for unused product will continue to be processed according to the procedures of the Patient Refund Program. All refund requests must be completed and postmarked or received by UPS by May 16, 2005, to be eligible for a refund.
