Where do you find your information? How did you develop your treatment protocol? Do you use on alternative treatments or use alternative and conventional together? Have you always been on an alternative treatment or did you start with conventional treatment and change? Do you go to a Rheumy or an Alternative Doctor? My RA diagnosis was about 6 months ago. I'm just interested in learning more. Thanks!!Donna

Non-antibiotic therapies for infectious diseases

This is from Pubmed -http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12807291?ordinalpos=16&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum

What worked

Let's start a thread for those of us who have found solutions! I am back to 99% of a normal life, from being at about 20% due to moderate to severe osteoarthrits in one hip. My limp is gone, the severe pain is gone, and my range of motion is almost back to normal. What worked for me is the following:
-treatment by a homeopathic doctor (not holistic; this is a very specific form of treatment, inexpensive, and usually involves only a few visits, in my case only one.)
-glucosamine, chondroitin, + MSM
-hyaluronic acid (enteric coated to make it to the bloodstream).
-fish oil capsule
-regular excercise
I had been told I would continue to get worse until I got a hip replacement. Instead, I have steadily improved. Wanted to pass on the information; hope it helps someone.

Looking for 'alternative' people

I just realized there is an 'alternative' forum here on AF.

Anybody out there interested in forming a study group and healing together?

Hugs,

Pip

Probiotics Primer -

I think these guys sell stuff, so not the best for info usually, but this seems really pretty basic for those who are interested.

Pip

http://www.meta-ehealth.com/site/office/article.jsp?path=fm_wellness_center/nutrition/nutritional_health_encyclopedia&id=49&category=nutrition

fish oil

I am in good control with MTX and Enbrel but sometimes when I overdo it, I have pain in my right shoulder and knees. I would like to share my excitement and feelings about a gastro-intestinal cleanse I did several months ago. It's called the, "so easy cleanse" being the only 3-day colon cleanse to remove encrusted fecal matter aka mucoid plaque. The Ingredients are ALL Organic, RAW, and non-GMO. It's disturbing to think of what kind of filth is sticking to and clogging our intestines especially if most of you grew up on the SAD diet (standard american diet) as I did. Possible food particles, preservatives, chemicals, addititves, de-natured foods, and/or other un-natural foods that are hard to digest or for the body to completely release, etc. Think of gluten here... glue-ton.. sticking to our insides. I've heard of studies finding food particles from when we were small children that showed up in the intestinal or colon tract 20-40+ years later (how they determine that I don't want to know..lol). Many doctors, researchers, health advocates, etc. are stating that one of the main factors to having great health and preventing dis-ease is having a clean and healthy functioning colon. I knew my body could use a good sweep of the intestines and colon. A collegue of mine suggested this cleanse. I documented and took pictures of my experience on this 3-day cleanse. You can view that info through my blog at www.myspace.com/rawsoccerdude. The pictures show some nasty rubbery material that came out of me so those of you with weak stomachs please be prepared. I've always been in great shape and felt healthy but as I got into my early-mid twenties I noticed I wasn't digesting as well and my bowel movments were irregular. Since doing this cleanse I've had better digestion, nutrient absorbtion has seemed to improve, more energy, clarity of mind and feeling of body and regular bowel movement. During the cleanse it was very smooth and subtle. It wasn't like having diarrhea or uncontrolable releases. I knew when I had to go and was definitely mindful of being near a bathroom. I was so impressed with this cleanse that I decided to distribute it. I want people to feel as good as I do and live a happy healthy life. There are many health products and ways to go about achieving vibrant radiant health and this cleanse is definitely one of them in my book. For more info please don't hesitate to call, email me or visit www.3daycleanse.net Great health and happiness to you!

warm regards,

michael george aka "Detox Dude"

206-355-1871
Detox_dude@yahoo.com

Alternative Medicine

What alternative medication have you tried that worked?

Arthritis Treatment Centers of America

For your information - hopefully some of you will find this helpful.

Arthritis Treatment Centers utilize the most advanced, non-invasive medical technologies; and combine them with the best of the established, drug free therapies to reduce and even eliminate arthritis pain and restore joint mobility. Well all i can say is its the best present i have ever gave my mother.

She took this Monavie for the next two weeks, 2oz in the morning and 2oz in the evening and by the end of the 1st week she called me to tell me that she is starting to feel better and her pain is nothing like it was at the start of the week. By the end of the 2nd week she's feeling hardly any pain whatsoever and the swelling in her hands and feet have all but disappeared and her blood pressure was at a more recommended level.

I'm not trying to say that this is a cure for Rheumatoid Arthritis but it may as well be, for the life my mother is now living I’ve never seen her as happy it's like she's been given another lease of life.

If you want to find out more about it then please get in touch with me you can email me at chris.mcnaught(at)gmail.com and i can tell you a little more about it.

Anyway its up to you if your interested then please give me a shout, what have you got to lose? While recovering, my doctor mentioned that he had arthritis and used Celery Seed Extract oil to reduce the pain so it did not interfere with his surgical skills. (I am glad he did not tell me this before the surgery!)

I couldn't find any oil, but the local natural food store carries Celery Seed Extract pills. I tried them and have used them for 4 months now. They were better than some of the banned pain pills (Celebrex, Vioxx, etc) in reducing pain in my hand joints from arthritis. I don't know why and have not found much useful info on the internet. I am surprised the AF Supplements do not mention it since it worked so well.

I used to take Vioxx (4 years) until it was banned. I never had any trouble with it. I also take Glucosamine Chondroitin (GC) and it works well for me. I tried several times to stop one and only take the other. Based on this unscientific sample, I can say for me that GC works as well as vioxx.

Now it appears that Celery Seed Extract also works as well, for me. So the combination of GC and Celery Seed makes my hands almost normal.

Now I have to try some of the other suggestions on this forum. She was a young teenager with RF+, ANA+, high sed rate & more, poly-JRA, HLA-B27+ Spondylitis, severe cartilage loss, erosions & quickly losing the ability to walk. We found the Road Back Foundation (www.roadback.org) and Dr. McPherson Brown's antibiotic protocol and the work of Harvard's Dr. Trentham and she won this fight.

(Post was for the RB)
I thought this update might give a boost to everyone on a road back (especially Cheryl's Jess who is on a road very much like my daughter's in disease & athletic goal).

So it was 2004 and she was at her first Olympic trials (though at 14yrs probably not a real contender) and the pain in her feet, wrists and hands were becoming an ever bigger problem. Then July 2004 at US Nationals, she took to crutches between competitions. A world reknowned pediatric rheumatology center said she was no longer an athlete and would be in a wheelchair by summer 2005. She started high school burdened with a grim prognosis and with directions to scale down her dreams and goals... not just athletic ones but academic, social, everyday life. We were also told to plan on attending the annual AJOA conferences.

We found the Road Back in Dec 2004 and started a remarkable journey. Simple things like the ability to walk between classes and take the stairs instead of a handicapped elevator returned by year end. She took the toughest classes and made A's. Had a very busy life with many extracurriculars. By April 2005, she had not only returned to competition but had requalified for nationals. She was definitely on the road back. We did not feel the need to go to the AJOA in 2005.

I posted 'JRA and AP a year later' in Jan 2006. That was when we realized that this must be a remission. Since then, the road has only become smoother. She doesn't take Minocin 200mg everyday but now takes it every other day. She doesn't hurt if NSAIDs are skipped a day or two. But since she's in continuous athletic training, she is careful to prevent and treat any signs of inflammation from injury or overuse. She is ever so careful about her diet, supplements and vitamins, exercise and training. The cartilage in the damaged joints has regenerated, range of motion has returned to normal, no more pain. (But she can still predict an approaching storm better than the Weather channel with her joints!)

So she boarded a plane for Atlanta today and we noted that the AJOA conference is being held there this week. I wondered how many JRA kids she might walk past in baggage claim. But this was a day for smiles instead of a time to attend a conference & learn how to manage a lifetime of disability. Because as the AJOA conference winds down, across town another group is gearing up. It's time to train for the world championships with the Olympic coach, 2004 medalists and national team members from around the world. Now, the dream for 2008 may be impossible and even meeting our fellow Road Back friend/Olympic hopeful teen (scleroderma & AP success) at the 2012 games a very long shot, but for today, right now, there's one happy kid who's journey has taken her to a place where she's on par with the best. She's an athlete again.

Acupuncture

I have been doing acupuncture for close to three months now. I'd had all the classic symptoms, and I was looking for anything to help ease the pain until I could get into my first appt w/ the rheumatologist. So I started looking at everything in my life that could affect my arthritis from exercise and diet to stress. I'm about 20 pounds overweight so I wanted to lose the extra weight. I went to the bookstore and settled on the Abs Diet for Women, which is basically just healthy eating. It includes lots of fiber rich fruits and veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains. The day after I started the diet I noticed a dramatic difference. I had no morning pain or stiffness, no trouble getting out of bed, and my energy level had increased a bit. And this was BEFORE I started any type of drug treatment. I'm not any type of medical professional, but I just thought I'd share this info and hope it could help someone else. If anyone else tries this and it helps out please post. The program consisted of launching the website, sampling, direct to consumer sales, test markets in retail stores, and advertising on Google search engines.

Yesterday alone, we had over 5,300 visits to our website and received over 5,000 requests for samples,“ said Dieter D. Doederlein, Vice President of Corporate Development for HealthSonix. “This is significant because early evidence suggests that we have a high conversion rate from sample to purchase, and we continue to get positive feedback from users of all ages.”

“In addition to the direct to consumer marketing efforts, we have been test marketing the product in regional drug stores and have now progressed to Vendor status with one of the largest national drug store chains in Canada. I came here 25 years ago trying to find an opportunity for a better life. At first it was really hard to struggle in a country that is not yours, where they have a different culture and speak a different language. I was able to get a little budget to start my first bussiness, a restaurant..i had a good result with that bussiness, I was able to make more money. Now in these years I have two hotels, and two restaurants and another property that i have for rent. I was getting all of my goals accomplished. A few years ago i was diagnosed with arthritis and it changed my life completely, the pain was unsufferable, I started seeing doctors with the hope that I could get a cure for my disease, but everything failed, medicine couldnt do anything for me.

I decided i would stop seeing doctors and find the cure myself, so i did and developed a new technique that gave the cure for my disease, I forgot about the pain and the nights without sleeping now Im fully cure: after getting the results i got with myself i shared my technique with some family members that had arthritis as well as me, and now as it worked with me, it worked with them, they are fully cured now.

I being trying to contact many associations but i didnt get the answer and the opportunity i was looking for, so this is why im now requesting you to give the opportunity to show you guys how i cured, and then you guys could use it on some other people that are currently sufferring from arthritis.

if you have any questions please dont hesitate to contact me either by e-mail or by phone number

e-mail: kuantacqing@hotmail.com

phone: 511-447-88-77 ( LIma-Peru)

thank you for reading this e-mail and hope to hear from you guys soon.

atte

Kuan Tac Qing

Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate?

Sorry to say but the fabled effectiveness of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate has been disproved in double blind studies just completed. No effect on arthritis or joint or ligament pain or any of the 20 other things the people that hawk this stuff say it will do. It can raise blood sugar in diabetics and the rest is crustacean shells. It is time for the government to crack down on the phony claims made by supplements and make them prove they have therapeutic value. After nearly being poisoned by a "great cure" for my arthritis, I started really studying supplements and found that so far all of the alternative treatments subjected to double blind studies are not effective.

They may have a placebo effect as we know the mind is the best thing for curing and controlling pain, but lets call a spade a spade. If it is a placebo and it works for you, great, but refrain from claiming it will cure my problem when in fact it will not cure anything. This website needs to be reassessed for the information it is putting out about supplements.
Elimination Diet, Probiotics, Vitamin Supplements, Homeopathic Remedies and Distilled Water

Elimination Diet, Probiotics, Vitamin Supplements, Homeopathic Remedies and Distilled Water is what worked for me. I also stopped using products with Aluminum (I don't use deodorant with Aluminum) or Floride (I don't use toothpaste with Floride) both have been shown to inhibit healthy immune function.

I saw well over 20 different healthcare providers including MD's, Chiropractors, Naturopaths, Massage Therapists, etc.)Today, I am painfree and symptom free.
A must read article/study for anyone with RA is found in Integrative Medicine, A Clinician's Journal (www.imjournal.com) The 7 page study; "An Integrative Nutritional Approach to the Treatment of RA" includes a good, basic, very easy to understand and use Elimination Diet.
Other great info sources I have found:
"Alkalize or Die" by T. Baroody
"The Self-Healing Cookbook" by Kristina Turner
Also these great websites:
www.lef.org
Enter your search words (your condition) and hit search. They tell you what dietary changes you need to make and what vitamins and supplements you should take for your symptoms or condition based on the latest research. For many years I being looking for ways to find a cure for arthritis and finally I did. It might sound hard to believe my proposal but at this point I think I feel that I´m the only one that is able to cure arthritis within a few weeks that the patient undergoes my own personal treatment. My personal treatment is not based on any already known medicine, is all natural, and the best of all doesnt represent any harm to the patient in any way, no either mentally or physically. Doctors and patients can feel sure to use my treatment, the only thing that you can expect are good results, an ease on their pain and a new life without arthritis on their lives and their bodies. I have tried my technique in some of my family members that had this disease and all of the results were positive, all of them show an improvement on the disease and now at this point they live without this disease. I´m really serious about this, I know that many persons have tried and failed to find a cure to this disease, thats why I´m very sure that I can solve the problem of arthritis to millions of persons that are currently strike by arthritis and many more that are about to be.Its hard to believe that this can be possible, since a lot of doctors have tried to find a cure for many years and haven´t got a positive result for it; and it´s even more hard to believe since I´m not a doctor, scientist or anything related to medicine; but Im very sure that if Im given an opportunity I wont dissapoint you guys, and I´ll give a solution to ypur arthritis problem.
I hope that this can be read by any doctor or association that feels interested in my idea, I´m willing to work with anyone that would like to know more about my curing art. This is my first visit and am desperate for info. My wife of five months has ra. She's been taking meds prescribed by her doctor for years. She has a lot of pain most of the time and I worry about the effects of the drugs she's taking. I am interested in alternative treatments. I'm a firm believer that the medical community doesn't have all the answers and that they are too vain to consider other alternatives, especially if it doesn't benefit them financially. I've read some of the threads and frankly I'm confused, lots of discussions about diets, etc, but no specifics. Please help.

Rhumatol

Is there anyone out there who has tried Rhumatol to address their arthritis? I don't know what type of arthritis I have, all the tests came back normal. I do know that it's similar to gout. I've had my toe swell up so big I could barely walk. I often have joint stiffness and minor pain in my toes and knees, but I've found that changing my diet has helped me and my brother-in-law. The one food that I can't eat at all without paying for it the next day is McDonald's french fries. I don't know why, but neither of us can eat their french fries. I also avoid prepackaged junk food that has a long shelf live and things like hamburger helper. I found out that bread has a lot of preservetives to give it a longer shelf live and now I make my own bread; it's helped me a lot. My brother-in-law has a much more severe case of arthritis. He's not only had joints swell, but has had his neck lock, and recently had a flare up in the iris of his eye. He's found that a low carb diet has helped him. Cutting down on the amount of carbs and sugars he eats has cut down on the number of his flare-ups.

I'm wondering how many other people out there are that are between 15-30 yrs old that have similar gout like symptoms. Maybe changing your diet would help you too.
