Since not driving in months and not working anymore, I have very little foot pain these days...Thanks be! But when I did, I used my parrafin bath to keep the skin smooth, tight skin hurts with swelling. I wore only what shoes would allow swelling without pain....and I kept my feet as elevated as possible. I rubbed something from the health store called TOPRICIN on my achy feet and it did help some.

I wish you feel better very soon Awma...God bless you!

LISSA....That broken screw in your foot sounds terrible hon. I hope you get that fixed soon! I'll be praying for you!

RE: Hurt too bad to drive!

Awma,
I feel so much for you and the pain you're going through. It's hard enough having to deal with this disease but having to work as well just adds so much more.
I've been off from work these last two weeks and have been using this time to wean myself down and hopefully off prednisone. I'm down to 1 mg a day but I'm coming to realize just how much the steroids have been helping me. I'm struggling now to get out of a chair and walking like and old man. I see my Rheumy next week and I'm sure we'll have a good discussion on what's next in my treatment plan. I was praying that in this last year since all this started that it might just go away but I'm beginning to accept that this is going to be long term.
I hope the family leave act works out for you. I will keep you in my prayers. God bless.
Bob

RE: Hurt too bad to drive!

Awma ~ I'm so sorry for the pain you are going through. It must have been an awful couple of days for you. I do hope you are able to get the Remicade going sooner, rather than later. Perhaps you could talk to your rheumy about a burst of prednisone to get you through until your FMLA goes through. May I also suggest some Crocs or similar type shoes, as well as some arch supports? Both of those things help when I have to be on my feet very much.

Keep your feet up this weekend and rest, rest, rest!

Blessings,

Robin

RE: Hurt too bad to drive!

Awma, I hope you can get your FMLA papers signed and also get your Remicade infusion moved up. I'm a firm believer in early and aggressive treatment. I hope you get some relief. God bless.

Lissa, I haven't even had any surgery much less any broken screws. I hope you get it corrected without too much problem. I have recently had a fusion in my left foot that did not fuse and now have a broken screw in my foot. Am scheduled for surgery next month in Nashville, anyone else ever have this problem? I was no weight bearing for 3&1/2 months the first time, I really don't want to have to go through this again. Any suggestions.

RE: Hurt too bad to drive!

Awma - Oh, my gosh! I just read your post and it could've been written by me! I had a similar experience this past week. I can tell you that when you get that much pain in your feet/ankles, if they start to cramp your legs, my doctor told me to try wet very warm towels on my feet/ankles/legs. I just did this when I had a similar painful experience this week and it really helped. Try to keep them elevated, too, when you get off them. It also helps. Hope you can get some r & r this weekend and that you can get a hold of your rheumy on Monday. You'll be in my prayers! I hope you got to rest some today and are already feeling better.

Definately, get in touch or go see the rheumy on Monday. It sounds like you need the remicade sooner rather than later.

Judy

Hurt too bad to drive!

I've had 2 very long (10 and 11 hr) days at work this week because of the holiday coming up. Never off my feet more than a few minutes during the day.

When I left work tonight, I didn't think I could make it to my car. Then I didn't think I could drive home. My ankles and feet hurt so bad I just sat in the car and cried while I let the air conditioner cool me down! I did get home and was thinking of spending the evening just sitting in the car rather than try to walk in the house.

I tried to call my rheummy today to have my FMLA papers signed but because of the holiday weekend, they were closed today. I think I am going to call Monday and see if he will fill them out for me. These longer than normal days are just too hard to get through anymore! I don't see the dr again til August and he mentioned last visit that he wants to start me on Remicade infusions. I am MORE than ready for any relief after today!

Just venting this overly painful day and heading to bed for hopefully a good nights rest. (Yeh right!)

Happy 4th of July to all of you here!
