I believe I'm sensitive to milk, I didn't have any milk for few days and then had a big glass full. I flared up almost immediately, I was out rest of that day and night. Does anyone have this kind of sensitivity to milk?

milk is a common allergen which is often linked to RA, as is beef, wheat, corn, citrus, nightshades. I avoid all animal products and feel world's better.

Can you give me ideas of healthy foods to eat that don't have all these allegens? Do you take calcium tabs?

I do take calcium tablets. I eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, beans, rice, etc.
I make vegetarian chili, soups with lots of cabbage, onions, carrots, celery, things like that. Lunch today is canned black beans with the sauce, onions, garlic, shredded carrots, chopped celery (all cooked until veg. are soft-ish) over rice. I'm making my family chicken fajitas tonight but I will eat the sauteed vegetables and guacamole along with some brown rice. You might be interested in Dr. John McDougall's site:
http://www.drmcdougall.com/science/arthritis.html

check out his entire site, including case studies, archive articles, etc. I have his book and I've just started following it very closely. If you have questions, you can email him directly and he will answer you. I've corresponded with him several times and feel quite happy with the information he's given me. I am feeling much better with this diet. It's not easy, I won't pretend it is, but the benefits are worth it.
I hope this helps

Hmmm... I don't drink milk. But my guess is it's milk that has been fortified with D right?

Milk is very mucous forming and acidic, both of which do not bode well for arthritis. Cow's milk is meant for baby cows which grow to hundreds of pounds within a few months, so it is much higher in protein than mother's milk. Check out www.notmilk.com for some interesting info.

Hello,
My 17 year old daughter was diagnosed with JRA 3 years ago. We tried a naturopath just to see what they would suggest. They checked her blood to see if she had sensitivities to foods such as milk, wheat, nuts, etc.. She came back HIGHLY sensitive to dairy and wheat. After coming off both, her energy is SO MUCH better! Her JRA is pretty stable and fatigue is gone!! She has noticed that if she has milk, she can REALLY tell.
Thought this might encourage you. Also, she takes tums for calcium.

Thanks for sharing this Shellee82, I pretty much stopped all milk products and like your daughter, I feel much more energetic and less pain. It't better than before, but I'm not totally better. I still have lots of itching and other sensitivites, which I haven't figured out yet.
What convinced you to see a naturopath?

We just wanted to try SOMETHING!! I'll tell you another interesting thing that happened. Since she had to totally stop dairy, wheat, eggs, and peanuts, I decided to do it with her. After 1-2 weeks, I realized how much better I was feeling!! I have narrowed it down to wheat for me! If I eat too much wheat, I certainly hurt much worse!
The naturopath also suggested LOTS of fish oil, however my daughter just won't do it...
Hope this helps~

Hi Sheelee82 - I too am thinking of visiting a naturopath. I am 25 and just diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have seen so much research relating wheat and dairy to RA – especially Celiac’s Disease. Do you mind if I ask if your daughter also continues to take medication to stop the progression of the RA or is she just taking a natural approach?
Thanks in advance!
