Anyone here treat their PA with Arava? And how much success have you had? How about the side effects? My boyfriends Rheumatologist gives him exactly no information. 7 yrs ago he was my rheumy, and he told me his phylosophy was the less his patients knew the better for them. I thought this to be preposterous, and quickly found another RA doc. My B/F seems to like him, so I butt out, still he prescribes Rx's without so much as a warning to side efects, short or long termm.

Hi Ally, I know you posted this a while ago, but I just saw it. I used Arava for my PA for 4 or 5 months, then got a rash and had to stop the drug. I liked it. I used it in combo w/ mtx. It helped with the fatigue. I hope your BF does well on it.

Hi Andiros, Thanks for the info. He is currently into his fourth week of treatment, and is starting to feel nausea, today was the worst, lasting for about a half hour. Other than that, he hasn't had much in the way of relief. He is waiting the full six weeks to see if there is any sign. Thanks for the info, I'll keep you posted, and I'll be back with any questions. Ally

Ally, I was taking Arava and Enbrel for my RA and came down with Pustular Psoriasis while I was on them! My derm. eventually put me on MTX and I promptly got a low white cell count so I had to stop the Arava. BJ

I've heard a lot of bad things about Arava. There are a lot of people who have to come off of it due to high liver enzymes, docs don't like risking the patients health. I would not risk going on it. That's just me personally.

My son has psoriatic arthritis. He was on methotrexate injections for 1 1/2 years with horrible side effects. He was switched about 5 weeks ago to Arava. So far, we love it. His mood has improved and he's doing better at school. We hope this continues. He does have to have labs done every 4 weeks to check his liver, but he had to do that when he was on mtx too. So far, liver enzymes have not been a problem on mtx or the arava. Best of luck in your quest for answers. Sure hope the arava works for him.
