I've had JRA and the genetic form of arthritis since I could remember. But last week was the first time I was ever questioned about having the disease... from a doctor. You would think I would actually be welcomed to the idea of someone not judging me for the first time about it or actually treating me like a regular human being but I was instead a little shocked and angered by her accusation. It was as if she didn't believe that a girl that looks average and healthy, aside from the slight limp I carry, to be a carrier of Arthritis. Just because I am not yet crippled by the disease doesn't mean I don't live with the pain brought on by it everyday.

My son has had JRA since he was 5. He's 16 now. I've found that there are some people that are sympothetic and others that are not. My son too has it bad in his feet and limps at times but other than that you can't really see his pain. Its every day - it effects his moods, his plans for that day sometimes, his sleep. I could go on, but remember the ones who really know you understand you. Thats what matters.
