For years I had been keeping things under control with Naprosin, But recently I have had a bad spell, and my doctor put me on Sulfasalazine. I have been on it for a couple of days and the pain is worse than ever. Does it generally take time for this to work?

It can take sometimes 2 months for this to work sometimes longer. The docs usually say 3 months as a rule. Hope you get some relief soon. I know they usually start you out low dose and work you up to a higher dose. I'm up to 2000 mg a day now. Much luck to you.

I know this is an old post but I have found the sulfa doesn't work well alone. When you take it in combonation with the Enbrel works pretty well though. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on that.

Hey Kelli in Florida, I am Kelly in Michigan. I just started on Sulfasalazine, I have been on Celebrex for a month. My rheumie told me that it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to a couple of months. I have heard a bit about Enbrel, but I am not that familiar with it. Methotrexate was brought up as a possible for me if the sulfasalazine doesn't work.
