My 12 month old daughter was diagnosed with JRA (Pauciarticular) last week. Her knee is the joint most obviously affected. She is not yet walking and at times won't crawl. We are monitoring other joints. She has had periodic fevers -- sometimes low-grade 99.5 to 100.5, but tonight and last Tuesday, just before her appointment with the JRA doc she had a fever of above 102 (with ibufprofen then and naproxen now). Are fevers common and without cause or should we be concerned? (She was checked by a pediatrician last Tuesday because of three days of low-grade fevers, but got an okay).

My daughter experienced frequent fevers 4-5 a month for a few months at the beginning of her JRA. I always mention them to her rheumy but he doesn't ever seem concerned with them. I always wonder whether they are related to the JRA or if it is something she picks up from daycare. THey don't ever seem to progress to anything else though. Let me know if your Dr tells you anything. I was really worried that she may have systematic arthritis because of it, but appranetly that was ruled out. Have you started physical therapy with your daugther yet? We just started today. She didn't respond to the Naprosyn so the Rheumatologist did a joint injection last week. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it has worked. No heat in the knee and the limping seems better. Hopefully with the physical therpay her range of motion will improve

i've had jra for almost 5 years, and i always get fevers, especially before, during, and few days after i have a flare. they're usually low grade, but can sometimes go into the worry area. it seems to be fairly common, so even if they appear to be without cause, i wouldn't be overly concerned. i don't even really notice a fever anymore, and i think you'll find that she is running a low grade fever most of the time, even if she doesn't feel like it. it gets to be just another symptom after a while...you'll get used to it, i promise!

I've had jra for almost 22 yrs, and ive never had the chance to talk to someone in my situation. As I live in a very rural area in New York state so if I can talk to someone who has polyarticular JRA like I do i'd realy appreciate it.

Hi, Let me share Breana's story with you. Keep in mind her's is a rare case. Breana has been running fevers since birth(Nov. 12, 00) her fevers are monthly for 6 nights 7 days. At first they started off in the low range 102-104. But she was admitted to our local hospital many times her first year. Never had any apperent swelling rashes etc. Well her fevers began to get higher and respond slower to Mortin/Tylenal... peds sent her to Boston Children's Hosp. To the infectiosu diesease doc. This was a 3 month wait to get seen. Well in the mean time her fevers increased to 106+ for the 6 night 7 days. We were losing our minds as her parents and so was our ped...she kept on Boston trying to get Brean in quickly(our ped has been VERY good, even if it doesn't come across here like she has there is much I am leaving out!) Breana was seen On Sept 11, 02 in BCH she happened to be 106,2 that day! The first doc called in Rhem right away and they did a ton of stuff on her(admitted overnight). Well on Oct 10 we got a DX of Genetic Rhem Disorder. What was that? Well it ment she was neg for ANA and Rhem factor and never had any apperent joint involvment, but her SED and CRP Rates are always sky high(norm for her CRP would be <.5 she runs 40. when well to over 100 when fevering!) Because of this we needed to do further genetic testing but insurence would not pay! BCH has been great over the past months they relized that due to Breana's CRP, SED rates, her high fevers, and now her photosensitity with her eyes that they needed to refeer her elswere! This scared us because they are supposed to be one of the best! Well we just got back from National Institue of Health in Bethesda Maryland. They did the genetic testing that we couldnt afford to pay for!! God bless them there! The doc whom is the gorue(sp?) of these Genetic Rhem disorders feel Breana has TRAPS or possiably STILLS disease. Of the 2 we are praying it is TRAPS as it is the less compilcates of the 2. Of course we wish we didnt have to even think about any of this!! But these are the cards we have been delt. Currently we wait until end of OCtober for results. Until then Breana now fevers every other week at 107. But when she hits this we now give her Prednisone which knocks her fever done to 103 but it comes back the next day! This goes on for 3 days then she gets a break for a week then we do it all over again. If shje tests + for TRAPS BReana will beign Enbral injections, + for STill's its a assortment of meds. That is our families story.... sorry it is o slong but please keep in mind Breana's situation is rare! Tracy
