Hello! I finally figured out how to post a message ... duh ... some days I think I need retraining on the simplest things! I have a question and thought with your combined experience, it's the best place to go for some information. I had Polymyalgia at 42, took the prednisone treatment for 18 months and except for some residual weakness, I was over it. Now, at 54, I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have just started taking Celebrex within the last 12 days and it's been a great help with the pain. But .. I find that over the past year as the fibro has increased, when I've been stressed I spend a lot more time in the bathroom. I have a 19 year-old who is putting us through the hoops with bad choices, bad friends, bad, bad, bad.... well, some of you have been there and know what I mean! Is IBS an all-the-time thing or does it take triggers (like stress) to kick in? I find that once things calm down with the young one, I'm almost immediately back to normal bathroom habits. Is this just stress or is it IBS? thanks for your input! Peachy

Hi Peachy...Great to see you on the new boards! I don't have IBS, but know a person that does. They seem to have trouble all the time, but it is much worse when they are stressed. My daughter has trouble when she is stressed and as far as we know she does not have IBS. How is the celebrex on your stomach? I am seriously considering asking my Doc for a prescription to help get me off pred (down to 2mg, but stiff and sore). Good luck with the teenager. These are the worst years and it will get better. Take care.....Geri

Hi Geri: Last week was the first week on Celebrex and I started off by taking it every other day. The relief seems to last that long so now I'm going to try every 3rd day. If it works, why put more medicine into my system than necessary! The rheumy also gave me Nexium as a stomach protector, since I have a history of ulcers and gastritis. He did say that Celebrex is a "new generation" of anti-inflammatory that is far easier on the stomach. As long as your doctor doesn't see a conflict with anything else, it would be worth a try, especially since you would be watching for any stomach reaction. It's made a huge difference for me. Having said all that, my stomach was a bit sore last week - actually tender to the touch but it was a very stressful week between a teenager who left Monday and didn't come home until Thursday, missing a daily much-needed anti-depressant and work and the fact that I was waiting for the results of a biopsy. I'm putting the stomach tenderness down to being really, really stressed/worried. I got the biopsy results today - fine - but the teenager took off again tonight. I got a phone call saying "I don't want to come home ... I'll get a ride home tomorrow". Well, there goes the job since the boss has been more than patient but enough is enough. So far, we've had five years on this roller coaster. Thanks for the thoughts on IBS. I've been putting it down to being due to stress and only this evening did I wonder about any connection to fibro. take care ... Peachy
