Hi everyone. I'm a 26-year-old man, and had been in good health. I started having sciatica pain when sitting around January. My GP didn't have a clue what was going on, since my back seemed to be OK, and neither did a physical therapist. I finally saw a neurologist, and he suspects that I have rheumatoid arthritis in my SI joint. I'm taking gabapentin for nerve pain, but am still waiting (far too long for my taste) to have more tests and see the neurologist again. I've also been having some pain in my wrists and stiffness in my fingers recently, as well as some pain in my knees. Lately my legs have actually felt heavy, though I've still been able to walk OK. Does this sound typical?

I'm trying to find a better chair at work, since I'm sitting at a computer most of the day. Does anyone have advice for this? I had been in a pretty hard chair, which didn't work well at all. Now I've got one with better cushioning, along with a ring cushion to help redistribute the pressure on my butt, but I wonder is anyone has specific advice about what chair would be best. Thanks in advance!

Hi, and welcome to the site. The pain and stiffness does sound typical of RA, the heaviness, too. Can't help with the chair but a trip to the Better Back store might be helpful. A good mattress helped my back tremendously! I found a mattress sales person with a back problem that was helped by his mattress and bought the mattress he used! Good luck.
