Hi,
One week ago I was diagnosed with RA after a summer of misery. I am now on Prednisone, Celebrex and Plaquenil – what a difference! I can function. One of the things I missed most over the summer was gardening. Now that I am on Prednisone, can I still garden? I am concerned about infection (I like to root around in the dirt with my hands). I have enjoyed reading about gardening and RA elsewhere on the site. Any tips and tricks for gardening much appreciated.
It’s nice to be able to read about life with RA. Thanks for all the good posts. Best to everyone!

Hi all - I'm new to this board, but I've been fighting fibro/OA and Sjogren's for 10 years. MomT, a friend of mine takes the extra precaution of using latex gloves to prevent soil-transmitted vectors that cause infections. He also washes his hands frequently when gardening without gloves. Beware of some drugs making you more sun sensitive. Best wishes!

KyraS, Thanks so much. I pulled some weeds today and washed my hands often. I like the glove idea. Looking at my day lilies that need dividing makes me tired, but at least I can get some of those weeds that are over waist high out of the ground. Best.
