Article from USA Today about autoimmune illness and the progress that is being made with major advances in genetics and exponential growth of knowledge about the immune system.

I found it to be interesting....

I really was interested in this part of the article..Reinforces my belief that everyone, especially people with autoimmune illnesses in their family should have their vitamin D levels tested..

Take care,

Lynn

Scientists believe autoimmune diseases are caused by a genetic predisposition activated by some environmental exposure.

"We don't understand all the factors influencing the immune system, but there has been an explosion in interest," Strumph says. Possibilities include exposure to new germs, a result of international travel and commerce, a deficiency in vitamin D, an excess of cleanliness that stunts immune system development, even obesity.

Very nice article Lynn. I totally agree with the view of genetic predisposition and trigger of some kind. Thanks

You find the best articles. I agree with this one. So interesting! I will pass it on to my mom who was recently diagnosed with RA. And today, in talking to a friend, I found out she has all the classic symptoms. Just like me, she assumed it was all related to her workouts. So I sent her to make an appt to see a rheumatologist.

Vitamin D testing should be included as part of the routine tests. I have doubled my folic acid in the last two weeks and feel better. And over cleanliness/getting rid of bacteria? Oh, so true.
