Hi all-I am 48 and recently diagnosed-about 6 months ago. I have OA and depression and led a very active life prior to age 40 or so. so now I am receiving treatment for all of the above and getting along OK. My concern is that OA and FM are progressive. How fast? I am working now as i have since age 15 and find that i am worn out by 2pm or if i take a nap for 1/2 hr I can do an 8+ hr day. I am also frustrated with not having the energy to do the many hobbies that I have and fear that soon I won't be able to do them because my hands won't continue to work-stained glass, woodworking, needlept, etc. Any ideas or suggestions. I know I am to exercise 20min per day-still working on that, but at least have a pool to exercise in -I live in the South and have long heated summers. Thanks.JT

Okay, JTurner, I can't resist replying - what has worked for me is diet - its crucial. I was fortunate enough to have a roll model of someone with FMS who runs in marathons!!! Yup. But if she goes off the diet, it takes two weeks of feeling horrible to get back into the swing of things. Briefly, what not to have - sugar, flour, caffeine and alcohol. Okay, what is there left? Green tea, lots of fish and fish oil, olive oil on salads, a ton of vegetables, and no fat yogurt and fruit for dessert. IN about two weeks - most folks can tell the difference in how they feel. Less swelling in the joints - easier concentration levels. its called anti-inflammatory eating - reduces muscles and joint inflammation - Best book I've ever read on it is The Perricone Perscription - (even prevents wrinkles)!. bjay
