i had my arm surgery to remove the benign (non cancer) bone tumor around my radial nerve (main nerve) in my arm. it was far more intense then they ever expected and they told me it was a miricle of god that i hadn't loss the complete use of my arm because of the position on the tumor.

the bone tumor was in the muscle not in the bone, it was two pieces. one above the nerve and one below the nerve they were crushing the nerve. to discribe it the way my doctor did he said it looked like a string going through the middle of a large hard rock. it took them 45 minutes of chipping just to free up 3/4 of an inch of nerve. it covered over 2 and 1/2 inches of nerve. my nerve was very badly damaged from the tumor. the tumor had attached itself to the nerve completely and it was very delicate to try to peel it away.

i came out of surgery and the doctors had hoped to of had a response from that nerve in the 1st 24 hours. it didn't respond. now they say my arm will stay this way atleast several more months or more. the healing process is very slow and because my nerve was damanged so badly it may not come back anymore at all. i only can move my fingers slightly and bend my elbow a little bit. i can't move my hand it just hangs down and so do my fingers. i only have maybe 15% use if that.
i trust them whole heartedly and thank them for atleast having that much.

atleast alot of the pain in that area is gone for right now. they said they gave me cortasone shots during surgery.

i am going to take a break from the boards for awhile. i just am emotionally drained. i am not sure how to digest this all and i guess i just need some time to deal with it.

my whole life changed and it's just alot to take in.

if you want to reach me pm me and i'll check every few days and you can give me your email and i'll stay in touch when i can.

thanks for all the prayers and support through all of this and i'll come back when i feel alittle better.

Carole, I'm sorry that things didn't go as well as you had hoped; however, miracles are still something that happen. Please know that you will remain in my prayers for healing of the nerve, as well as healing for your emotions in the midst of all of this. Please stay in touch as you can, as we all care for you very much.

Thanks for the update. At least it's good that you didn't let it go any farther before getting it fixed. I hope you regain at least some use of your arm and hand. Prayers are on the way. God bless.

Carole:
What courage and strength you have. I just though about you typing your post and thought what an ordeal that was for you.

Take your doctor's advice and rest and we will all pray for you, sending my extra spoons your way.

Godspeed!

Carole,
Thanks for letting us know how your surgery went. Please rest and take care of yourself. Nerves do heal, like we've learned with RA sometimes you have to have a boatload of patience and faith. I'm sending you prayers and spoons for a speedy recovery. Now go to starbucks and get a big pumpkin latte or whatever your heart desires and go see Cowboy. You know that old saying about the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a person. I truly believe that,or I wouldn't be here today!!!

Stay in touch when you can!!!!
Many hugs,
Carolyn

Dearest Carole...it's normal to feel down after major surgery...surgery has the same effect on your body as does a huge car accident - and it takes time to recover completely...treat yourself kindly my dear friend...anytime a worrisome thought enters you mind, push it out and replace it with a positive plan for the future...because there is going to be a future and it will be a good one for you...rest and heal...you're in my thoughts and prayers daily..with God all things are possible sweetness...gentle hugs and much love, jess
