Stock options, free meals, lecture fees - the pharmaceutical industry showers them all on department heads at some US medical schools.

Drug companies are big investors in medical research and post-qualification training for doctors. Now a survey by Eric Campbell of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and his colleagues has put figures on the industry's involvement.

I'm still trying to formulate a response to your post about Peer-reviewed journals. Yes, I know we need standardized trials, but I'm thinking that, tied with Pharma payoffs, is why we aren't making headway on this disease. They're too busy validating the status quo.

We need to figure a way out of the box!

I think that there is urgent need for some kind of regulation or control of the marketing startegies of the Pharma Cos. And more investment of goverment in science and health to compete with the private funding. It is the only way I see to avoid problems we are facing.
