Bryan, you may want to check with your local hospitals and see if one of them offers a support group for the younger crowd. Good luck!

I'm interested in finding a local Arthritis support group here in the Bay Area, CA that is geared toward a younger age group. I attended a suport group, and it was people of much older age than myself (Im 29). Though, that is ok, i would like to find a group for people around my age, to meet and greet etc. Any info, suggestions would be appreciated.

Also check your local paper and local AF branch. They often have listings but some support groups can be more of gripe sessions then support so be sure and find one that meets your needs. Or, you could always start your own if you're not finding the right one for you. Good luck.

I looked at the webpage for the AF in your area, but didn't see anything specifically focused on your age group. I wonder if the foundation could support you in forming a group for people your age. I hope you'll keep us posted on your progress with this.

Take Care,
Pam

Bryan I agree it is hard to find a younger group. I went to a local support group and found that the people were considerably older and mostly had oa. Now I understand that we all need support and a place to vent but this group was not for me, I left mad. I mean these people were in there 80's and complaining about a bum knee when I would be happy to ONLY have a bad knee and at their age, well I think you would expect a little wear and tear. I would think about starting your own group. Love that Bay area!

Bryan,
I completely understand your frustration with support groups. There are no support groups in my area (Northern Virginia) that would be good for me either.

I'm 33, and I have 4 (soon to be 5) small children that I would have to take with me. That would certainly liven up the senior's "club"!

I have found this board to be a tremendous support group for me. I can access the board when it's convenient for me and I don't even have to fight with car seat buckles.

I'm learning to just take advantage of the friendships I already have and do my best to inform them about RA. I have a good friend that I like to do scrapbooking with, and she is very understanding of my limitations and helps me whenever I need it. A lot of times she offers the help before I even ask.

Also, I was invited on a senior citizen's outing recently with the seniors at my church, and I was the only one who took a cane!

I hope that you find some solution to this problem that works for you.

Take care,
Shu-Shu

I hear you Shu-Shu- there are no support groups for RA for any age where I live. AF told me most people get support at water arobics. When I went all the others where much older and recovering from hip replacements, strokes and heart surgery. Had nothing in comman. I attend support group for widows and widowers and once again am by far the youngest at every event. What's bad is that like you I'm the one with the cane watching the the older folks dance. I feel like I'm a group of one- until I log in here. So thanks everyone on this site who support each other. Cindy

Hey, Bryan..it's so ironic, because last week I was searching for support groups in my area (Westchestery County, NY) and have been unsuccessful. I couldn't believe it; I even called the AF chapter in NYC - no one called me back (2x), called a couple of the hospitals - no luck, and asked my rheumy - even she didn't know of any.

So, all that being said - I agree with Sue - think about starting your own. And that way, you can weed out the "CCs" - chronic complainers..:-).

Ciao
Diana

Hi Bryan,
I'm 31 and in the Bay Area (in San Francisco) and haven't yet found a local group, but am always on the look out. If I see or hear anything, I'll drop you a message. I would LOVE to find a support group for people nearish my age (I've had it since I was 20). Shu-shu - 5 kids?! You're a rock star!!
