Good afternoon all,
My hubby and I went to the appt. yesterday, and I was very displeased with how it went. My rheumy had a PA shadowing him and I suddenly became a case and not a patient. When I explained to him what I've been dealing with these past two weeks, he addressed my concerns to the PA and completely talked over me: I was a spectator in the room. Then, I got to be the guinea pig while the PA felt my wrists, hands, ankles, etc. Which, by the way, I have really not had them since the 10th of October. My fingers look like sausages, my ankles have become "cankles" and my wrists look like someone sewed a string of pearls around them.
At any rate, he spoke to the PA about how I was on MTX for 7 months and went off of it because I wanted to get pregnant. They then spent the next 5 minutes discussing MTX and the risks of it while being pregnant. Finally after their meeting was all done, he said that he would like to try me on one of the biologics, either Humera or Enbrel but he had to see what the insurance would cover. He recommended not to go back on the MTX because he said a drug should not dictate your ability to have children. So, as it stands right now, I am still just on the prednisone and Indocin until I hear back from his office. He did say to double my prednisone dose. I was taking a 10 mg dose. I took another pred. last night after the appt. and I actually felt some relief this morning when I got up. Thanks for letting me vent. If anyone else has experienced something similar, please feel free to share.
Love and hugs,
Deni

Deni,
My second rheumy treated me just like that. Needless to say, I put up with it only until I could find another rheumy!
You'll be in my prayers dear one.
Love.....Chris

That's wrong. If it is a private office it's not like it is a teaching hospitl. Even if it was, he can be a good teacher without ignoring you. I love my dr but she has had a couple of visits where I felt she wasn't listening and hurried. If you liked his recomendations you could try giving him another chance. Wish that to keep their licence drs had to listen to a pannel of paitient once a year. Cindy

Deni - I go to Vanderbilt, which is a teaching hospital. I've had to train both the "newbies" and the attendings to speak directly to me. Sometimes the docs are in such a teaching/learning mode that they completely forget that there is a real person behind the disease, so they need to be gently reminded. If you like the rheumy otherwise, I'd give that a try. I hope it works out for you.

sorry u felt he was too clinical, but atleast he is on board with your desire to have a child. not all docs will work with the risk.
God Bless u whatever u decide.
