Welcome Natalie. Please fill out your personal page (go up to Start Page at the top left in the blue rectangle). It will help us help you if we know something about your body's version of the RA Monster. Basically, we are each different. There is no one pathway and what works for one person may do nothing for another. But among us, there is enough experience that you're probably sure to find someone who has dealt with any particular symptom.
Also, please read the welcome thread. There is lots of information contained there. Meanwhile, welcome to our place! Susan

Natalie,

Welcome to the AF board. This is a wondeful place with kind and compassionate people. RA is definately not a one size fits all disease and there is a lot on information for everyone here. Things do get better, but it can take awhile to find the right combo of meds...Hope you start to feel better soon

Take care,

Lynn

Hi Natalie. Glad you found our site. There's so much help and encouragement to be found here, or just a place to vent on those days when no one else understands, or to get some questions answered by those who have been there. We're all here to help each other. Welcome

Hi Natalie, Welcome! I am a newcomer too (about a month now). I've been on meds for 3 1/2 months in total. Started with Plaquenil, then added Sulfasalazine, now added MTX, with Prednisone on and off. Sometimes I feel that I'm not seeing any pain or fatigue relief, but then I think back on how I felt even a month ago and realize there is a slight improvement. I've been on Methotrexate for 3-weeks and haven't seen much difference. No side effects either, which is good. I see my Rheumy tomorrow and we will discuss the next steps. He keeps telling me to be patient, which is hard to do!

Welcome Natalie, I hear you live on a beautiful island, a friend raves about it and the people. I hope we all are as kind and friendly as the people of Barbados.

MTX takes awhile, it took me over 10 weeks to feel the difference. If you catch it early and have no real damage. You will return to almost normal. Some of us have a really aggressive version, and so it might seem scary but many many have milder versions and do very well.

Welcome, Anna

Welcome to the site. I have no idea about medical treatment opportunities in Barbados but in some places it is hard to get to a qualified rheumatolgist. RA is usually a difficult disease to manage and even a well-qualified rheumatologist sometimes has trouble getting it controlled. Of course, many people do well on the more common treatments so we don't usually hear from them on this site. I hope you do well, but I also hope you stay on the site.

A person from the Virgin Islands could not find a specialist on the islands so she had to fly to the mainland to see a rheumatologist. Then her GP and the rheumatologist cooperated to manage her treatment with few actual visits to the rheumatologist. I strongly recommend that you see a specialist if at all possible. I hope you do well. God bless.

Age 82, diagnosed RA 12/2001, married since 1952, 4 sons no daughters, 4 grandsons 1 granddaughter.  Doing well on Methotrexate and Remicade.

Hi Natalie! I think everyone else has covered the basics below (haha) - but I did want to welcome you to the board. I've been here for 7 months - and it has been a wonderful place for me to come for support and answers to my questions. I hope you get the same comfort as I have found. Hugs!
