I'm 38 and 10 weeks pregnant. I have been diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis and osteopenia. I discontinued all my meds when I discovered that I was pregnant (at 6 weeks). I was taking 200 mg plaquenil twice a day and fosamax weekly. Has anyone else become pregnant while taking either of these drugs. The doctors want me to continue the plaquenil but I'm afraid of the affect on the baby. Any info would be appreciated.

I have RA and I am 5 months pregnant. I am currently on 400 mg of planquenil/ day and also prednisone. Planqeunil is a class B drug, I believe, so it is a very safe med. If you go to www.otispregnancy.org and call their 800 number to get info on meds you are taking. OTIS is a non-profit research group that has study information on pretty much all drugs and they can tell you the class drug, safety of it, etc. All research I did on my RA meds told me that planquenil was pretty harmless and even my perinatologist told me it was safe to stay on it. But it is ultimately your choice. If things re going ok w.o it, you would be ok to stay off it. Hope that helps.
