Hi, I have had fibromyalgia for about 10 years now, and have been living with it. Not really on meds, but just started lyrica. Recently the pain became unbearable and I was just dx'd with psoriatic arthritis. Now on methotrexate and mobic.
I really cannot find much info on PA, anyone else have it and what should I expect?
Thanks,
Susan

Hi, Susan, first of all, what type of psoriasis do you have? I have Palmoplantar Pustular Psoriasis (PPP) which is a rare form of Psoriasis that occurs on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. MTX controls it completely and works very well for most forms of P. I also have RA which is distiguishable from PA in that I have a positive Rheumatoid Factor (RF). Plaque Psoriasis is the most common Psoriasis in PA. The arthritis part of PA can be deforming but usually is not as bad as RA and can occur in most joints. PA commonly effects the fingers and nails which may include pitting, ridges, yellowing and destruction of the entire nail. Topical ointments may help but MTX can put it in remission. Moisturize often. If you have open lesions, the moisturizers might sting. Pure Shea butter is excellent for that.
You can learn more about P and PA on the Psoriasis Foundation site at www.psoriasis.org. You can also find good information about psoriasis at skincell.org. Both these sites have good forums.
Hopefully MTX will work for you and you will go into remission. If not, and you would like to know anything else I have not covered here, please post again with your questions. Starshine.

Thank you Starshine. I have the plaque psoriasis, and only a very small patch on one elbow. But it was enough. I have had 2 doses of MTX so far, and my hands feel so much better already. Not so much for my back, neck and feet yet. I will check out the other sites, thank you so much. Good luck to you.
Susan
