I have been on prednisone for the past year and a half, mostly while ttc and pregnant. I have gained so much weight and am having an incrediably difficult time getting it off. I have been OFF the prednisone for the past 3 months...has anyone had any luck losing weight after long term dose of prednisone?

I had the same problem! Wouldn't it be nice if the weight came off when you stopped? A few months later, I started taking Arava which in some people depresses your appetite. I was one of those lucky people. I would go 8 hours without feeling hungry. On top of it, it worked really well for my RA, especially after I added Enbrel. I had more energy and started exercising. I lost 15 pounds, trimmed up and felt great!
Then I had to go off Arava and back on MTX, had surgery on my right hand and was in so much pain that I couldn't exercise. I also went through menopause. I gained 8 pounds and have been really struggling. I was finally able to start exercising, ate practically nothing and lost the last of the weight. It is much harder now that I am post-menopausal though. BTW, what does ttc mean? ss

Thanks for responding Starshine. I am not familiar with Arava. I am taking Humira and MTX which is doing nothing for me. I need to change meds again. Sounds like Arava is a good medication. My luck it would make me gain weight
I need some medicatoin that makes me feel well enough to get to the gym. Right now I barely sleep because of the pain in my elbows, especially on snowdays. As for ttc = trying to conceive. Thanks again for responding. Good luck.

Hi, I have taken prednisone about 25 years, I'm 5.3 feet and around 115 lbs. After I have RA, I eat less salt, less sugar and drink much water.
I have had methotrexate and rituxan in couple years. Humira, enbrel, remicade didn't work for me then my doctor let me try rituxan. Rituxan is really good (I have 2 infusions almost yearly). Mobic is a good medicine to use daily. You can ask your doctor for mobic 15mg.
Good luck. TN.
