I was wondering if anyone else gets flare ups right before and for the first few days of their periods? That is the time I seem to be at my worst. Sometimes I even get pretty sick when my period comes. I was just wondering if anyone else goes through the same thing. Thanks!

YES! I've noticed that for 6 or 7 months now. I'm going to ask my dr. about it at my next appt. in a couple of weeks.

Oh Yeah!!I have had more periods, more backaches, more cramps and actually had to leave work!!
Then I had a bad one on Jan 28th and then nothing. Hot flashes, thought I was starting the big M and I'm only 39. Then this past Tues (April 7) I started the worst period I have ever had -- the bleeding was scary bad, the pain was intense and I had to stay home from work. I have told my RA doctor and he just blows me off (I need to find a new one) so I'm there with you -- If anyone has any answers for this I sure would be interested!!

I wonder if my GYN would know anything on this or if I should talk to my RA doctor about it. What do you ladies suggest? Idrial, did you talk to your doctor about?

I am so glad someone emailed me this website. Hi my name is Kelly. I am new to RA.I have been diagnosed for almost 12 weeks/I started having signs in my feet about 2 years ago. I am having a very bad flare up right now and yes it a day away from that time of the month. This has been the worst flare I have ever had. I work all day, go home and go straight to bed. I have called my RA doc..third day in a row...for some kind of help. I have only seen her 2 times and I really like her but I am very disppointed right now. I am on celebrex and she has me taking acuflex for pain...at this point...the acuflex is not doing anything at all. I called again today and told the nurse, if she is not going to send something for me then at least tell me to just deal with it. but back to the point and off my own soap box..im starting to see the pattern and it seems to be getting drastically worse.

Yes big time. I asked my RA and she said it is normal to flare before your cycle...

My flares, (IBS, Fibro & Inflammatory Arthritis) are almost always right before or during my period, although stress has been known to bring one on early. I asked DR about it. He says "anything going on can be worsened by hormone spikes". I believe that. I just don't know if the symptoms are set off by the spike in hormones or if the symptoms are already there and the hormones make them worse. I suspect that my system perceives the spike in hormones as a kind of stress and reacts accordingly. That is my guess anyway.

God bless and keep you,

And I thought I was the only one! I feel pretty sick about just a day or two before my period begins, and I get pretty bad cramps in my inner thigh as well; it almost makes my whole leg feel numb. I used to think that those cramps in my thigh was because I was ovulating, but for quite a while now it comes right before my period for some reason, so it can't be ovulation. But anyway, I did try a hemp pad from Pretty Momma Sling (a friend of mine recommended them) for the past 3 months now and it helps tremendously! I just lay down and put the pad on my lower stomach and it is awesome. I am just so tired of using mediation, so I am in love with this hemp pad. Maybe some of you can try that?
