Hi,
I am new to this board. I am 58 years old have RA and Fibromyalgia. I am on numerous medications and my doctor prescribed Lyrica which I started yesterday. Needless to say I feel like a walking pharmacy. I have been very dizzy and sleepy which I know are side effects of Lyrica. I feel totally spaced out. I have read that these side effect sometime go away after being on the medication for awhile. Can anyone tell me if they had any side effects and when they may have gone away after being on the medication for awhile. Also the side effect of weight gain has me very worried because I do not need the extra weight on my joints. I have read in my research that it is fluid that causes the weight gain. Can fluid pills help with this? I am trying to hang in there but it is hard. Thank you for any responses and God Bless.

Yes fluid pills helped with my weight gain. And the little weight gain is worth the help I got from lyrica. Try to stay with it if you can. I feel like a new person after 5 weeks.

My Dr. prescribed me Lyrica too, but I was so afraid of the weight gain, I decided to down aspirin.  I was on meds before that caused me to gain 40 pounds, I won't do it again.  I felt miserable all of the time.  I take a real pain pill when the fibro gets really bad, other than that I deal with it.

I too was worried about the weight gain with the Lyrica, but the pain was so awful that I was not able to do anything. I have been on it for about 8 months now and I have not really gained any weight at all. I have about 5 pounds that keeps coming and going, but that it is. It really has been a miracle drug for me.

It took about 3 months before the dizziness really went away. That was the worst side effect I had with it.

This disease is almost as bad as the RA that I have to go along with it!

Love and care

Rosemary

Hello,

I am new here, this is my story..  I am 33 years old & initially was dx with Ankylosing Spondylosis near the end of 2007.  I was reffered by my family dr to the only local rheumo.  I began getting very frustarted when all the pred, several nsaids & PT did not help me at all.  At that point I was fed a study diet of vicodin from Dec. 2007 until the beginning of August 08 a couple of weeks ago to "treat the symptoms".  I was continuing to feel worse with less & less energy & more generalized horific pain.  The Vicodin wasnt even helping at that point.  The last week in July I was at my rheumo office 3 times in one week as well as sev phone calls over the weekend & advised to go to the local ER for pain mgt. from my rheumo.  The local ER Dr. was going to just give me a fetanyl patch & send me home.  As an afterthought I asked for a muscle relaxer since at this point I also felt an intense burning in my back muscles as well.  With some reluctance i did get a small rx for flexaril (sp?)  After just 2 doses I felt like a new person.  I had not felt that good in months, almost a year.  The following Monday I was back to my rheumo for a recheck.  Since responding so well to the muscle relaxers & not responding to any of the other tx, he dx me with fibromyalgia.  He did not give me any info on it at all.  The little bit I do know about it know is from what I have read on the net.  When I asked how this would be managed I was told with the fetanyl patches & muscle relaxers.  when I expressed concern about "this" cocktail being my long term tx he said it was fine & safe.  I do not really want to live my life drugged & groggy all the time.  I have 2 children under the age of 5 & need to be alert to care for them.   I was curious if Lyrica is something that your dr. came up with or did any of you go to your doctor & ask for it on your own?  I too feel like a pharmacy & my work & home life are falling apart quickly at the seems.  I am looking into holistic, diatery, pain mgt centers, anything!!I am desperate to make some real progress.  Any suggestions that anyone has would very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Alicia
