My mother has had RA for the past 32 years. She is now 63 and is in a wheel chair. Unfortunately no treatments have worked for her. It has been pain management alone. She can not take the newer drugs out there because she gets infections very easily. She is to the stage of needing help toileting. It has been hard to sit and watch her decline. To be honest I feel jeolous of the comercials for the newer drugs. There is nothing left and I am having a hard time dealing with it. I can't imagine how my mom feels. She was robbed of an active life. My dad is her caretaker and has been robbed of the wife he married. Us kids have been robbed of the playful mother we had before..I was nine when she was diagnosed. I am now 41 and have four kids of my own. It is getting hard for her to swallow and her neck is weakening. I have asked her doctor before about what we should anticipate in her decline. Will she not be able to eat? Will she not be able to hold her head up? Has anyone out there experienced the same thing? What can we expect to happen to her? Thank you in advance for your support and help.

I'm so sorry for you and your mom. I can't answer your questions because I have had great success with medications. My advice to you is to go to RA Connect and post there. That board is much more active and people answer your posts daily. You will get lots of support also. Good luck and hope to see you at RA Connect. ss
