Hi everyone,
My name is Roxana and I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have had Psoriasis since I was an infant. When I was 15 yrs. old I was diagnosed with RA. No one in my entire family from either side has RA. One doctor suggested that I might have developed the RA due to the Psoriasis. It sounds outreagous but has anyone heard of this? I am 28 now and had been on remission from the Psoriasis when I was diagnosed with the RA.

I'll tell you what the doctors told me. I have psoriasis, as do 2 of my 3 children, one of whom has developed psoriatic arthritis. A doctor also has said she believes I'm at the beginning stages of PA. Any of my children are at risk of PA because of the psoriasis. Psoriasis doesn't put you at risk for other types of arthritis, as far as my doctors have told me, just psoriatic arthritis. The psoriasis and arthritis tend to be somehow linked. Usually the psoriasis gets worse when the joints are inflamed. My teenage son has severe psoriatic arthritis.

Thanks for responding to my question. I hope you and your children find some relief with all the new drugs coming out. My Psoriasis has returned because my RA is completely out of control.

Hi! I have had psoriasis for as long as I can remember, and when I first started showing signs of PA (last year, aged 44), my rheumatologist wasn't sure what it was... suggested that it might be due to a virus or possibly rheumatoid arthritis. A different rheumatologist (established professor at the medical school) asked me if I had psoriasis, and immediately concluded that it was PA. In up to 30% of all cases of psoriasis you might develop arthritis (usually between the ages of 30 and 50), it's different from RA in that it is usually assymetric (not the same joints on both side of the body are affected), but you can read up on that easily. I suggest you go for another opinion, with a different doctor. The treatment of RA and PA are similar but not exactly the same, and I do think it's a good idea to get the exact diagnosis. good luck!

I had psoriasis since I was 11. My arthritis did not start til about 15. So I have PA have now had it for going on 16 years. Did you test positive for the RH factor? Could very well be PA instead of RA. PA is misdiagnosed all the time. There are also some people who have PA and RA.
