Any experiences or knowledge of studies about silicon supplements? Am especially concerned with extreme stiffness in legs and hips. Just started taking it - and will give it 3 months - since there do not seem to be adverse reactions - but I AM sceptical.

Donald, I am an arthrits sufferer (OA) and a professor and researcher. Here are some answers to the questions you posed for cherry and tumeric. Cherries have anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins in them and they cause the color. These chemicals are strong antioxidants and my suppress the activity of genes that cause the cartilage to breakdown (go to pubmed and see article by Haqqi TM, on pomegranate fruit - same chemicals and published in Nutrition). The spice turmeric is also a source of chemicals that suppress inflammation at the gene level but it only works in the GUT. The actives are not absorbed intact so use in arthritis is inaccurate. One company was developing this as a pharmaceutical but abandoned it when it failed to prove effective in clinical trials. Hope this helps.
