I was on 20mg daily of Bextra for 3 years, after taking both Vioxx and Celebrex for about a year each before that. I am a 33 year old male, and had a heart attack which my cardiologist says was most probably caused by my use of these drugs. I was placed on blood pressure medicine after first taking Vioxx, when my blood pressure had been normal up to that point. For several months before my heart attack, I was very fatigued, had lots of heaviness in my chest, etc...but was told "it's just arthritis in your ribcage". I guess they were wrong. I am lucky, and after 5 stents were placed, my prognosis is very good.

I haven't used Bextra but I have been taking Vioxx and Celebrex alternately (whenever my insurance decided not to cover one, they made me switch to the other and vice-versa) for about 4 or 5 years now. My blood pressure started climbing after being on these drugs for about 1 year and went sky rocketing after starting Arava.
None of my doctors will say the high blood pressure is due to the meds, however I feel strongly that it is. My blood pressure problems started when I was about 42. It does run in my family but not at this early age. Yes, I am overweight now but when the problems started my weight was closer to a healthy weight.
Interesting that you (Erik) had the symptoms that you did- I have had similar symptoms but my rhuemy didn't think anything of it- he thought I was having anxiety attacks. I even had a jumping feeling in my heart and trouble catching my breath. So glad I changed docs!!
Anyway, I'm having a stress test tomorrow and we're checking everything out. Hope you're doing well Erik.
And, Mike, if you're thinking of going on Bextra have a complete physical to check out your heart first. I'm continuing to use Celebrex because it is helping to slow down the damage my arthritis is doing to my body. Supposedly there aren't stomach problems with the Cox-2 drugs but I still do experience some stomach problems with them. If you're worried about the risks involved with Bextra maybe you could use an nsaid instead.
Good luck.
