Does anyone take enbrel. If so the couple of days following the shot I wake up in the middle of the night. Does anybody know if this is a side effect and does it happen to anyone????

I have been taking Enbrel for 7 weeks now and my pain in my hands has become almost unbearable during that time. Prior to Enbrel they hurt mostly but not constant, now the pain is a lot worse and constant - and gets worse everyday. Has that happened to anyone? I actually have a bladder disease so I wake up at night anyway, but I take my shots in the morning just in case they do cause wakefulness. I do feel a "rush of adrenaline" after taking the shot but it goes away after about 20 minutes.

No, I have not had this problem but you may need to talk to your doctor about that. It may be come kind of reaction. They may need to try something else. Good luck.

Hi all - I was on Enbrel for almost 10 months. It didn't help me at all. My right hand and wrist hurt the most and my hand was always swollen in the morning. The only thing that would really help me get started in the morning was to soak my hand and wrist in really hot water. I work on a computer all day so need to be able to use that hand. Finally, I ask my rhm to see about trying something else as I didn't feel the Enbrel was doing it's job. He put me on Remicade in January. So far, it seems to be helping, however I am on an 8 week cycle and I think it needs to be 6 weeks. This past week I have noticed more stiffness in my shoulders and knees. And my hand is swelling once again. Bummer. I go for a treatment in 2 weeks and will tell them what is happening. Good luck to you on anything you take. I find it has been a trial and error situation from the start. Eventually, you get on the right meds and life becomes bearable again. I go up and down but try to keep that positive outlook.

Hi Peggy,
Regarding your "adrenilin rush" you experienced after your Enbrel shot, can you describe the sysmptoms you felt and if it continued through out your Enbrel therapy. I just took my first Enbrel shot and a few minutes after the injection my heart raced, felt a little light headed and then felt a warm sensation but then went away after 30 seconds or so; I also kept waking up during the night. I told my rheumy and she advised to let her know if this happens again after my next shot.
Thanks
Wanda
