Hello all of you.
My daughter -now 25 years old- is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since the age of 3. For the last seven years she is being has been treated with Remicade, Humira and now Enbrel. She is living a perfectly normal life and she is rather well most of the time, but a hip X ray has shown that she will soon (?) need a hip replacement. Has anyone has a similar experience from such an operation to such a young person?
I d appreciate any help or any idea
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums.  I can't help with an answer for you but the only really active forum here is for Rheumatoid Arthritis.  People with all kinds of arthritis go there and you are likely to get some useful response if you post there.  I hope you find what you are looking for.  You might keep checking this forum to see if you get a useful response here.  God bless.

Age 82, diagnosed RA 12/2001, married since 1952, 4 sons no daughters, 4 grandsons 1 granddaughter.  Doing well on Methotrexate and Remicade.

Hello,

I had both my hips replaced 2 yrs ago, I was in my mid-50s and was diagnosed with RA in my mid-20s.

My hips were pretty bad, I had difficulty walking, sitting, getting into bed or a car.  You could hear my hip bones grinding and creaking when I moved my legs.

I had very good results with the hip replacement surgery.  It was amazing.  I was 100% weight bearing right after surgery.  I think they had me standing a bit the first or second day.

Make sure you have a doctor that has done a lot of these hip replacement surgeries and go to a good hospital with a good orthopaedic section.

If you have any specific questions, post again and I'll check back.  The hip replacements were such an improvement -- less pain, better mobility -- that I wish I had done it sooner.

Hi, I'm glad that your daughter is responding well to her meds.  I am 34 years old and was diagnosed with JRA when I was 8 years old.  In 2006 I had total knee replacement (both knees).  I have to say that it was a hard recovery but BEST THING I EVER DID  !!!!!!!!! I feel like a new person, and I thank GOD eveyday that he has given me a new life.  I have problems with my hips but they arent ready to be replaced. I wish your daughter the best of luck, and when that time comes, she will feel like a million bucks

Hello Edreesa!
Thanks for the reply. I am really very upset and your words have been very comforting. The good thing is that Myrto-my daughter- is a very strong person. During all these years and having gone through all this- as you may understand better than me- she has never let her situation ruin her life. For the last year she is living in Netherlands where she finished her first master degree and now she has started a second one for two years.
However, I have not yet come in terms with this new development and I feel terribly bad
Thanks again
Aby

Hello Joy!
Thanks for the reply! You see, i cannot feel so well yet because Myrto is very young and she is having a very full life. I am worrying- as a mom- about a thousand things. I have started asking and reading about the operation and I have found out that there is a new method, called AMIS that is supposed to have better results and a faster recovery. Have you heard anything?
Waiting for a new reply
Love Aby

Hello Aby,

I just saw your response, but it is late here in California and I am sleepyy, so I will only write a short note for now, but will wrote more tomorrow.

I understand how concerned you must be for your daughter, but be very encouraged with the improvements in the artificial hip joints and the surgery procedures used today.

I will write more tomorrow, but for now, good night.

Hugs,

Joy
