Hi, our 20 month old daughter was diagnosed on Wed. with Poly JRA. It took us 7 months and 8 docs before we figured out what was going on. She started Naproxen yesterday. My question is this. She was given a prescription for a shoe lift. What is this and where do you get one? Our Reumy suggested calling around to shoe stores in the area, but I have had no luck. (We live in NW Wisconsin.) Our Ruemy is 2.5 hours away, and she did know of two places in S. Wisconsin. She said that we should be able to find someplace around here, but no luck yet.

Hi, not a child, but had that done twice..in Illinois area, but that is far from you

If your talking about a lift on the outside of shoe....i had it done once by an old fashioned shoemaker/shoe repair...they glued something on the outer part of shoe, to correct overpronation..

Also had it at a ortho place that makes orthotics, and braces, they put the lift, glued a wedge to outer part of shoe..

Some very good shoe stores, specialising in hard to fit ppl, have orthotists, that take a prescription for orthotics..foot solutions have them

but if you can find a place that sells very good shoes, for hard to fit, they make or can glue something on, or they might be able to direct you to the right place...

Just wondering about the script, with the kind of place that would make braces and things, it may be hard to find a place like that

An old fashioned shoe maker , i know kind of becoming extinct, might be your best

Good luck

Methotrexate 14 yrs, Enbrel 3 yrs, Humira 5 yrs, Rituxan this year

Shoe lifts can be either on the inside of the shoe or the outside. A orthotic that is made just for her can go in her shoe, a off the shelf lift in the thickness ordered can go in the shoe.A thicker sole can be put on the bottom of the shoe.As to where to get this done where you live.... Some shoe stores, the limb and brace shop, orthopedic doctors offices, poditriy offices, and some health food or sporting goods stores. As a kid we normally got mine at the shoe store, the same one that sold shoes for all kinds of foot problems.

I buy the drugstore type as an adult.
