Hi!

This is my first forum ever. I am a 51 male with excellent health. Four months ago I started having small/sorish pains in one finger joint. From there, it has escalated to most of my fingers. Very painful and swollen. My life has taken a 180 degree turn. From not being able to tight my shoes. I started a week ago with a Reuma. Dr. She is very understanding and has me on Celebrex.

At first, a hand surgeon had put me on naproxen, but it did not do much at all. Celebrex helping just a little. Dr. wants to wait a week to see how I proceed with Celebrex. If not well, she may put some shoots in the sore joints. Also taking Glucosa/choron.... as a supplement.

At night doing hot pads to help with the inflamation.

I have fallen in the typical tired/drepressed/anxios cycle. Will start a Gym club tomorrow.

Does anybody know any Support group(s) in the Miami area? Talking to family is very hard and there is not much understanding. Only the person, who has this, knows how debilitating it can be.

May God bless you all.

Frederick

Welcome to the board.  The local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation should be able to tell you about local support groups.  Also your rheumatologist's office may know of some.  I have a little OA but mostly RA.  I'm not sure there is a good forum for OA here  but you are welcome to join in on the Rheumatoid Arthritis forum and that is very active.  Some people there might be able to offer suggestions for treatment and we do have some threads that help to explain a chronic illness to others.  Also we offer lots of understanding and support.  God bless.

Age 82, diagnosed RA 12/2001, married since 1952, 4 sons no daughters, 4 grandsons 1 granddaughter.  Doing well on Methotrexate and Remicade.

Hi,
I am new to the forum myself but not to arthritis. I'm popping in to say I understand and it is so scary at times even if one has had these ailments for a life time.

OA is what happens as we age--wear and tear on the joints. Water exercise and omega 3 fish oil caps can be a real help but always run these by your Dr. before ever trying.

Has your Dr. suggested using living aids? Like specially made silverware--easy grips, reachers, jar opener, compression gloves for your hands? Another thing to ask your Dr. about.

I'm sorry that you have been introduced to OA but keep in mind that it isn't hopeless. There are certain medications, and treatments that can bring some comfort to you. And we learn how to live with this disease. You just need someone to talk to that "knows" and "understands" what you are saying and feeling. Support is a major part of our coping with all this. And a part of this can be your time here in the forum, talking with others who share the pain.

Warm thoughts,
SassySyl
