I realize this is not a very popular forum, but I was wanting to start seriously exercising in the new year.  I have resisted exercise since I first had RA symptoms in Jan 07.  I was always strong, athletic.  I reallywant to make a decision to live strong within my limits.  I was wanting an accountability partner.  any interest?

Hi. I tried to reply to your message the other day, but it wasn't working for some reason.

Didn't want you to think that you're being ignored.

Let's Move Together is a whole program that the Foundation is launching this month. It'll be full of people to help keep you accountable to your exercise program! Check out the link:

I have a problem when it comes to exercise. I have to be very careful because some exercises are good if you have RA but can hurt you if you have Fibro and vice versa. I used to have an indoor pool where I lived and that was the BEST. Now I am just VERY careful. I'm gonna check out that link however.

I also make a terrible accountability partner with exercise or I would offer my assistance I tend to give up quickly if I have pain. go figure.

I started exercising again after being away from it for a while.  It has been harder for me this time but while we were visiting my inlaws in Tacoma for 2 weeks for the holidays, the weather was bad the whole time.  We were indoors most of the time and with not much to do, I exercised almost every day.  I want to keep it up and a partner sounds great; count me in!  I usually exercise to a DVD, FIT TV, or do my own thing.  I also have Wii fit but I am not too impressed with it.  I have hand held weights, a fitness ball, and an abd. trainer.  The abd trainer is great and I recommend that you get one if you don't already have one.  It has a place to rest your head, you put your hands above you on to a bar and just push forward.  Your upper body rolls up like a crunch but it is much more effective and easier on your neck.  I need to lose about 13 pounds which doesn't sound like much but it is a lot for me and much harder to do since I went through menopause.    starshine

Yes, I am very interested!!  I really need to exercise, and am thinking of joining a 24-hour gym in the town where I live.  I visited Curves, but they have no treadmill or bike.  What are you considering?  Home exercise, or gym?  This is just what I need!!  bonnie

Hi Diane,

I support your exercise program....I have moderate to severe RA and think exercise has kept it at bay...I jog 6-7 times a week for 4 miles....probably don't need to do it that much but I love it....jogging is my thing but you'll need to find something that you love to do....Anyways, I'm not sure what you mean by "accountable" I can offer encouragement to exercise and info as to how I'm keeping myself fit and healthy (getting enough sleep is as important as exercising)....I'm a green tea drinker and think this also helps me....I'd like to help in what every way I can....make a great day! Holly

Yes we all need to keep up with the exercise. I know how easy it is to say. Believe me, I was in pretty good shape then I had an episode with my asthma, then upper resp infections, which led to months of bronchitis and needless to say I was off my arthritis meds and on prednisone for a while. Basically I got lazy again. Have since gained back all my weight plus some. I have been back to the gym now for about a month now. Starting slow with cardio hoping to start some strength training in the next couple weeks. Just wanted to maybe give everyone something to think about.
