I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis over 6 years ago. Before that I had a lot of arthritis pain all over my body. After I was diagnosed, the pain continued so I finally met with a Rheumatologist. She informed me that Ulcerative Colitis is a form of Arthritis. Does anyone here have this condition? I would really like someone to talk to about it.

Thanks!

Karen

Hello,

I have had UC for over 30 yrs and the bad arthritis the last 6 yrs.  Sleeping is the worst for me because I wake up very swollen and it take a most the day for it to go away.  Heat works well, hot showers and heat pad.  I have only taken pain med. to manage because most Arthritis meds have bad liver problems. Any questions, contact me. Best of luck.

I do not have ulcerative colitis but I do have diverticulosis and IBS/an autoimmune disease (jury is still out on which brand)...i have had stomach issues since my early 20s and i am 43. My daughter 23 now has diverticulosis/was in the hospital for it and has bad back pain/she is graduating this month from college to teach and coach and is hoping to get good insurance...I do believe there is a coralation between stomach issues and autoimmune diseases....My theory is, it starts in the stomach somehow..maybe toxins ???

I don't have UC but in my endless research and quest to understand what is happening to me I have come across much interesting information regarding genetic arthritis, a gene that is thought to be responsible, and that gene's dual link to arthritis and IBD & related issues.

Very interesting, and a definite genetic link does exist, so you're not crazy in thinking its related! You can look around for info on the HLA-B27 gene and see what I'm referring to (not sure about the "legality" of posting links here).

There's no benefit to being mean-spirited.
Chances are that the other guy has just as big an issue as you do, so be extra-kind.

Dx - osteoarthritis of the hands and feet, lumbar facet arthrosis (my lower back hurts!), complete reversal of lordosis of the cervical spine (the spasms in my neck have straightened it completely), have done PT for right hip but is so far undiagnosed (not in a hurry for more xrays at this point!), right shoulder has "instability" and clunks and grinds
