Good Morning,

Just wondering what everyone does when your child won't eat  but needs their meds that must be taken with food? Hope everyone has a painfree day.

Hi Nancy.

My son has feeding issues so I have lots of experience in getting him to eat even when he doesn't want to.  My best advice is let your child eat whatever they want at med time (my fall back is cheese and goldfish or cheese-its.)   My daughter is ADHD and her medication makes her lose her appetite...since she is already very tiny...I have to get extra calories into her.  So every single night before bed...she eats ice cream...she likes it and I don't have to battle with her...so maybe your child would like an ice cream treat as well.

My son is 5 so I can somewhat reason with him and explain that he will get a belly ache if he doesn't eat with his naproxen.  I also explain that his pain will come back if he doesn't take the naproxen...so it's best to just eat and then take the meds.

So far (about two months) we haven't had any issues with his stomach and the naproxen...and he is not taking anything preventative for stomach issues.  He has actually been eating better since he feels better, I am so hoping this continues.

Good luck.

Karen and Alex, 5, poly (04/09)
