My daughters has complained one other time of chest pains and is complaining today, she says that it is like a pinching pressure, but not heart burn (which she has frequently).  We are so new to this.  Any suggestions?  Thanks from a very worried mom, Brandi.

Once upon a time I closed my eyes and wished on 3 dandelions, their names are Dallas, Maegann and Adriann.

hi there.  so sorry you're going through this.  while my daughter has polyarticular jra, she does see a cardiologist.  she has a benign murmur, but the rheumy thought i'd better see one, just in case.  well, while she doesn't have pericarditis, she does have some inflammation around her heart sac.  sounds terrifying, but because the fluid is not interfering with anything, the cardiologist just monitors her periodically. she's fine.  fluid and all!  thought i'd just share that.  do you see a cardiologist?  have you addressed your concern with your doc?  i hope you feel comfortable calling your doctor whenever, about whatever.  it is absolutely necessary that you can get reassurance when you need it.  it very well may be heartburn, but if you have a question, please call someone!!!!  hoping things get better soon...vicky

I'm not medically trained but I have heard of Pleurisy.  I think it is buildup of a fluid in the sac around the lungs and it puts pressure on the lungs, making it hard to breathe.  I think it is easily treated with an anti-inflammatory like Prednisone.  This is just something to look up before you have a chance to call the doctor's office, and I could easily be wrong.  God bless.

Age 82, diagnosed RA 12/2001, married since 1952, 4 sons no daughters, 4 grandsons 1 granddaughter.  Doing well on Methotrexate and Remicade.

This is a symptom of Stills. Along with the joints, it can cause inflamation around the heart and lungs. Very important that all your doctors are aware that this is a Stills symptom. I have read about others who have gone to the ER for chest pains only to have the doctors try to treat them for infection which only made the immune system freak out even more. Even though it is not as serious as a heart attack or anything it still can get pretty painful. You really should get your doctor's opinion on it as soon as possible. He may want to change his plan for meds because of this symptom. There is another helpful website that I used in the beginning www.Stillsdisease.org

My son (11) spent most of April in the hospital with fluid around his heart and lungs.  That's when they decided he has systemic, not poly.  (He was just Dx in February).

The trick for him seems to be anakinra, and they wouldn't discharge him until I got it from the Kineret Foundation.  They did discharge him after a few days, but without the anakinra he was back in the ER the next day, and spent 4 days in ICU.  It was 3 more weeks before I finally got the medicine.  I had to get a variance because we are underinsured, and the foundation "only serves" the uninsured.

His last visit with the cardio went well, and he said to come back in 6 months.  I have stressed to my son to let me know if he feels any symptoms.  The cardio acted like everything was peachy, but then said to put his number on my speed dial.  That got my attention!

Anyway, the fluid is gone, and his other symptoms are slowly subsiding.  We are still playing with his other meds, but for now the anakinra is a must.
