How long do corticosteroid shots work?

My daughter had them 2 weeks ago and I think they are already wearing off. I noticed her limping again but it only lasted a little bit. We have a follow up appointment next month, I am worried that she will be put on methotrexcate(sp?). He gave us that or humeria as an option.

I'm so sorry to hear that the cortosteriod shots might be wearing off. My daughter has had them twice - both times in her knee and wrist. It took about 2 weeks for them to fully work and the first time they lasted about 5 months. She had them again this May so I'm hopeing they will last for a long time. The doctor said everyone is different - they really could not tell me how long the shots lasted becasue it varies so much. I know that before the shots my daughter (3 years old) could not walk in the morning and after a couple of hours of hobbiling around she would walk with a limp. After the shots she know wakes up and runs around without even a limp.

I hope your child's works the same!!!

They worked right away. The next day she was running out of bed, which she has never done. She is way more happy. I have never seen her laugh so much. She is also eating more. I just notice that she sometimes still favors the knee and limps occasionally. I was hoping that the shots would some how put it into remission. I am worried about the other medications she might have to take. I hate that she has this.

I hate that any child has to go thru this. My daughter is also much happier after the injections. When she is not in pain she is like a different child. Last year when the shots wore off it was such a disappointment and they will only give her the shots once a year so we had to wait a long 7 months to get them again. My daughter is 3 - she was diagnosed when she was 1 1/2 years old. They started her on Naproxen and then added Sulfasalazine. When the doctor wasn't happy with the results of those last summer she (the dr) recommended the steriod injections - they were like a miracle - it was like she didn't even have arthritis. Then all of a sudden they wore off and the arthritis was worse than ever. This january the doctor added methotrexate to the other meds. I was so worried the first few times I gave it to her. But you get used to it. She takes it orally once a week. I hate that my daughter is on so much medication but without it there would be long term damage. The leg she has arthritis in is growing longer that the other leg and also the bone plate in her knee is getting bigger that the other. Her wrist (before the injections) was locked up and could barely bend.

After the injections last year -I asked the doctor about my daughter occasionally limping for a minute or two and then walking normally the doctor said it might be out of force of habit. They get so used to favoring or limping it is just a habit.
