Hi, I'm new to this forum and have been diagnosed with OA ... it started with bursitis in one hip that I fought with for 4 years ... then one day I just woke up and all my joints hurt and my shoulder was "frozen" ... my internist thought it odd that I would get OA in all my joints all at once, so he sent me to a rheumatologist... he thought I had PMR, but when I went to my second appointment, he said he didn't think it was PMR, but wasn't sure what it was ... in the meantime, my hip was getting much worse, so went back to my orthopedic surgeon ... he was shocked that my hip went bad in just two years ... he showed me my x-rays from 2 years before and it was fine ... now the hip is bone on bone ... so at some point will have to get a hip replacement He was worried that it was something other than OA, so wanted me to go to a rheumatologist to get a firm diagnosis ... found a new rheumatologist and she believes it is OA .. she seems to think all my pain will go away when I get the hip replacement done ... surgeon said its a 50/50 chance that the pain in the other joints will remain ... right now I'm on Mobic, Amrix and Tramadol ... most days it makes the pain tolerable, but now that "monsoon" season is here and it's much more humid, I am in agony ... does anyone else get more painful when it's humid ? Funny thing is, it's not the bad hip joint that is giving me the most pain -- my knees throb like toothaches ... laying down is not my friend right now ... which brings me to my other question -- has anyone found any type of mattress that makes them more comfortable ?

Welcome to the board.  With trouble in so many joints it is not the typical OA but I'm not medically trained so I could be wrong.  The most active forum here is the Rheumatoid Arthritis forum (RA Connect).  You are welcome to post there as well and you are likely to get some answers.  I hope you get effective treatment.  God bless.

Age 82, diagnosed RA 12/2001, married since 1952, 4 sons no daughters, 4 grandsons 1 granddaughter.  Doing well on Methotrexate and Remicade.

Welcome to the site.  I have RA so I can't help much with OA although I have done some research on it.  We are looking for a new mattress also.  The only one that my husband and I were happy with was a Serta Perfect Sleeper.  That was about 15 years ago though so the one we had is no longer available.  We have a Spring Air now and we are not happy with it.  We also had a Beautyrest that we hated.   Some people like the Temper Pedic.  I would like to try it but my husband says he sinks in too far.  Good luck and let us know if you get a diagnosis.  ss

thanks for the welcome ... I am so glad I found this forum -- it's comforting to know that I'm not alone Finally broke down and called my rheumatologist to see what she suggests for pain relief when its humid ... she said I could try either adding arthritis strength tylenol to my other meds or I could try increasing the Tramadol ... so will try that ... it's tough to know that the weather is going to make you miserable but, I keep telling myself, there are worse health issues I could have

I have been using a Tempurpedic mattress for 5 years and won't go back to any other kind. They're expensive, but they're also guaranteed for 20 years. Most other types of mattresses lose their support within a few years, even if they still feel relatively comfortable. I'm glad to know mine is good for at least two decades. The neck pillow is great too for neck arthritis-- takes getting used to as it's not the fluffy kind. It's all I use now and take mine with me when traveling.
