My son just turned 6 and has poly...which impacts his toes, knee, hips and shoulder...so he has a hard time walking distances.  He also has some other issues, including sensory processing disorder...so he likes to 'retreat' to his stroller in overstimulating environments.  He is tall but very thin (about 37 pounds) so he is outgrowing his regular stroller...actually he's outgrown it.

I belong to some other groups due to his other issues...I asked about 'big kid' strollers and found a great one (Maclaren Major) but it's expensive....$500+++.  I want to 'get all my ducks in a row' before contacting my insurance company and was wondering if anyone has had success getting one paid for?

I know at some point, if this flare doesn't get control, we should think about a wheelchair...but honestly I am so not ready for that mentally...this is all still so new to us.  We go to the pedi tomorrow for his six year check up and I am going to talk to her about this, as well as his rheumy on Monday.  But I am hoping against hope someone with a JIA child has gotten this paid for.  My 'friends' at the other site have gotten insurance (medicaid even) to pay for strollers...but they have other issues.

Thanks!

Karen and Alex, 6, poly (04/09)
