Hi all...this is my first post...after ~1yr of mtx we started enbrel ~3wks ago...starting with just 1injection per wk->to 2x/wk...My question are you giving you children both mtx(injection) and enbrel on the same day/same time...We are currently going to the MD office for her injections...thoughts/comments are appreciated.

Hi Collette.

We (my son is just turned 6 and poly) will just be starting Enbrel this week (been on MTX since the first week of May) and initially I want to give him his shots on seperate days.  The rheumy did say it was fine to do them both on the same day...but I want to know if anything 'odd' happens...which injection it's related to.

We currently give Alex his MTX injection on Saturday nights...while he's sleeping.  My plan is to do the Enbrel on Friday nights...although we may not wait until Friday.  We had an Enbrel mix-up at the pharmacy, so I'm still waiting on getting that corrected and my guys toes are causing him a lot of pain.

All the best,

Karen and Alex, 6, poly (04/09)

My daughter has been getting both Enbrel and MTX shot for about 3-4 months. We started the MTX first for a month or so solo. I am a pharmacist and researched and asked a million sources about when and how to give the simultaneous shots and was upset that I couldn't get a clear answer. When starting the Enbrel, I was giving them on the same day in the same arm an inch or so apart because I didn't want to have two sore limbs. My pediatrician said this would be ok (I couldn't get my Rheumy on the phone that day). However, I since switched because she was bruising from the Enbrel on some weeks and I didn't like have the other injection so close to it. Crazy thing is when I switched to same day, different arms we started to get results!! I don't know if the switch is related to her recent improvement but she has never seen a decrease in swelling before. I hope this helps.
