i have a daughter who has polyarticular jra and just a month and two wks ago she started methotrexate. before that she was on naproxen and oral hydrocortisone.  the rheumatologist freaked out about the oral hydro. (which was perscribed by another doc that does not work with any insurance and does his own research and treats way outside the norm, however he is not a rheumatologist and i feared his inablilty to evaluate her joints)  she developed a rash about 3 wks ago.  i took her to her regular pediatrician because i was worried about the methotrexate causing the rash but he said it was scabbies or mites.  this makes no sense because neither me nor my husband have them and even now after cleaning my home and treating her for scabbies she still has the rash.  i have little faith in the doctors right now and don't know what to think.  she did great on the oral hydrocortisone except a large, but needed, increase in weight.  does anyone have any advice?

It could be pseudoporphyria from the Naproxen.  My daughter got it after being on naprosyn for 18 months.  It is also called facial scarring.  If that is what it is, your daughter will need to take an NSAID other than Naprosyn.  It takes a long time for the scabs to stop appearing, and takes a long time for them to fade, but they will.  She should use a high spf sunblock on her face and hands.  I found a great article on Medscape about it with pictures.  There has been much discussion in the past on this forum.  Search "facial scarring"

Hi

My daughter had  mostly facial rash while on Naprosyn. Even while using a sun block. We stopped the naprosyn and the rash disappeared. I believe it was pseudoporphyria. Hope this helps.

There are certain types of arthritis that cause rash. My daughter's type is Systemic JRA and she always had a rash in the beginning. I read about another lady that posted a few weeks back about a rash... you might go back a few pages and read her post.... I think they figured it out. There is a pic of the systemic jra rash on www.stillsdisease.org
