Have any of you (especially those on MTX) discussed flu vaccines with your rheum? I know mine recommends the seasonal flu vaccine every year, but I just heard that the swine flu vaccine should be available this fall and I haven't spoken to him yet about that. Wondering what advice you've all gotten?

We just spoke to my daughters doctor last week and she is recommending that she gets it as soon as it's ready.  I was a little concerned since it is so new but I think the flu may be worse for her than the shot so we've made the decision to have her take it when it is ready.  She seems to have a bad flair after every bad cold or flu so I'm aftraid to see what the swine flu would do to her.  I will also be interested to hear what other parents have learned.

My daughter has never gotten a flu vaccine and never gotten the flu. Now that she is on her meds, I am nervous she will need one. I have no experience so it is already starting to stress me out! I do not like flu vaccines and don't really trust them to work and most peple I know end up getting sick anyway...

What to do!

I don't know how everyone else feels but all the decisions we (my husband and I) have to make about our daughters care scare me.  Which meds will help her with the least amout of impact on her body.  How do they impact her later in life.  Flu shots are just another in the long list of decisions we have to make.  We all do the best we can because we love our kids but it's sure a scary ride.

My kids will never have a flu shot again.  Not even for the swine flu.  They are producing it way too fast and I am concerned about the vaccines safety.  My kids got the flu last year and they got over it faster than their classmates.  I am not worried at all.  We have a very healthy diet free of all the garbage most kids eat.  They have never been healthier.

My daughter has had jra for 6 years and has had the flu shot once 4 years ago.

I totally agree with you on the decision of the flu vaccine. I think I am going to skip it because I would hate to see him get sicker by getting it than not. With all of the meds that my son is on I wouldn't really want to hurt him by giving him it. Besides that between the blood work and weekly shots I don't want to poke him more than he already has to be.
