I am just wondering if there are other parents that have had the doc tell them that their child had an overlapping diagnosis like mine did. I went from my son having a sprained ankle to poly JA along with the eosinafilic fascitis. He also has an IGA deficiency which can cause JA. I am really not sure what I am asking but for some advice from someone who has had a similar diagnosis that turned into a bigger thing than you could even imagine. My pour baby went from happy to screaming of pain in the night. WIthin a month after he seen the specialist the first time he had started to develop contractures in his fingers and now it is even in his toes. I am thinking about getting a second opinion because fascitis can be misdiagnosed and be leukemia. Any help would be appreciated.

THanks,

Jen

Hi Jennifer~

Welcome...sorry you are here but hopefully you can get some support and answers here.

My son was just diagnosed with poly in April of this year at age five...and he is a textbook case of poly.  However prior to this he was diagnosed with a few other 'issues' which we are now realizing was part of the JIA.  He has been in a special needs school setting since he turned four due to developmental delays (some of which were really the arthritis), sensory processing disorder (pain related for most of it), feeding issues (again at least partially pain related), and ADHD-like behavior (again probably related.)

We feel his JIA was triggered by either the croup and 105.8 fever he had in May of 2007 or his immunizations for his fourth b-day in July of 2007.  He was evaluated by the school district in May and August of 2007...so the timing is right.  Granted he has some other unrelated issues...but my gut says that JIA (and so many other issues) overlap symptoms...and if you are not comfortable with what is being dx'ed...continue to dig deeper.

My son did continue to worsen once we started seeing the rheumy...but per my other thread...we are now seeing great results from his treatment plan.  And best of all, my happy little boy is back...and he feels goooood!

Hang in there and keep digging until you feel comfortable with the dx's...

Karen and Alex, 6, poly (04/09) plus a bunch of other 'stuff'

Thanks for the support. It has been hard to figure everything out with just being dx'ed but I am seeing some improvement with somethings and my son is starting to get back to being a happy guy again. I hopw that one day he will out grow it but with the other diagnosis of IGA deficiency that can cause JRA I am thinking that it may not happen. The main thing that I am hoping for is that we don't have flare ups once we start to lower the steroids. It is much nicer to see a smile and my playful boy coming back though to. I know that last year the school said that they thought something else must be wrong and then we finally got our answer. Thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one with the multiple diagnosis.

Jen
