Hi all,

I haven't written much lately, but still follow everyone's story. My 6yr old daughter was dx in 4/09 with  POLY JRA.  She began with Motrin then moved on to Naprosyn. That gave her no relief.  She's been on MTX and Folic acid for 10 weeks so far. At the 8th week visit the MTX was increased to 15 mg weekly, since 10 mg is only the starting dose. Her Range of motion has increased and the Dr is very pleased.

She rarely complains of pain and if she does it's usally in her jaw.Only then do we give her a pain reliever. She hasn't experienced any side effects from the MTX at all. Her blood work is great. I prepared for the worst, thinking the MTX was going to give her all those terrible effects everyone talks about.

Early and aggressive treatment caused us concern but it seems it was the right decision for our child.

Great news!  We have a similar story.  Great response to MXT.  Good work on early and aggressive treatment!

Great news!!!  For us MTX was a stepping stone...great in conjunction with Enbrel!  But so happy you saw results with the MTX!

I am so happy for you! I agree that early aggressive treatment is a good thing. I have yet to meet someone who only needed naproxen... I am sure they are out there or I guess they wouldn't try that first... but mtx is what we needed too before we had any success. Hopefully your child will be like mine and never need any further meds and is now on the road to remission. Congrats!!!
