Cassie is now 6 and weighs 50lbs. And the umbrella stroller just isn't cutting it anymore. I really don't want to move to a transport wheelchair if I can help it since she only needs it when we're at the mall or zoo or something with lots of walking.
I've found the McLaren XLR stroller, but that is $350! And a friend suggested that maybe insurance would buy it. What about pulling her in a wagon?
Anyone else dealing with this and found any solutions?
Thanks in advance
Tracy, mom to Cassie (6, JPsa)

I have a friend with a severely disabled child, and she recommended the McClaren to me,
but also mentioned a "transport wheelchair" for about half the cost. I was thinking about
splurging on the McClaren for my 8 year old but haven't looked into it yet. You could try Craigslist or eBay, but I'd start with a call to your local "durable medical supply" company. If you're working with a physical therapist, they could recommend a vendor perhaps. Good luck!

My son is also six but just under 40 pounds....just this week I requested a referral from the pedi to a PT, finally, to get him fitted for a special needs stroller. I am looking at the Maclaren Major or the Special Tomato EIO
(http://www.adaptivemall.com/sptoeiopuch.html)
I have been putting this off...but he really needs it and we are going to Disney in December and I know he won't last the three days of walking....even though he's doing great on his current meds (Enbrel, MTX and naproxen.)
I 100% expect the insurance to cover this as we have a $1500 a year durable medical equipment benefit...and the pedi and rheumy both agree he needs it. The Maclaren will be about $600...the EIO is less...but I have heard great things about the Maclaren..so that is what we will push for.
It's hard...but my guy really does need this...even if mom is not ready to admit it.
Good luck!
