I was recently diagnosed with RA. I'm taking Plaquenil and Prednison. Back in May I started having hoarseness. I asked my rheumy and she sent me to an ENT doctor. after a few weeks of GERD medicine I still had the hoarseness this time more frequent. He ordered a biopsy which came back negative for cancer. Diagnosis was inflamed vocal cord possibly due to arthritis.
Does anyone have this problem?
I think I may have something else besides RA. My liver enzymes are very high, plurisy in the lungs, losing my hair, hoarseness, extreme fatigue and weight gain, rash on my elbows and sometimes redness on my face over my nose, forehead and cheeks, blurred vision.
My primary says I need to exercise and diet, then again he said I should ask my husband for a massage when I told him about my hands and feet being stiff!
My rheumy said I need to go back to my primary, now my primary wants me to have a colonoscopy done??
Needless to say I need a new primary but does anyone have these symptoms?

Hi Mimi and welcome to the forum. This area of the site is not very active. The most active forum is RA Connect. You will get a lot more responses and support there.
I have had a lot of hoarseness also. I had Laryngitis and a cough last spring and had a Laryngoscopy which showed inflamation of the whole area. I have a cough now with hoarseness but not Laryngitis. I haven't gone to the ENT yet and I am hoping that I get better soon so I don't have to.
A lot of your symptoms sound like Lupus, (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus). Has anyone suggested it? The rash on the face is characteristic of the "Butterfly rash" of Lupus. The weight gain could be from the Prednisone. Almost everyone gains weight on it.
Come on over to RA Connect and you will meet a lot of great people and get lots of support. Hope to see you there. starshine

Run away from that Rheumy you have, he is killing you
Please fast quit the prednisone and plaqunilm, what you have is the secondary effects of that quimical medicines.
But be carefull, prednisone must be taken away very slow. If you wish you can contact me, and i will tell you my story.
I´d already tryed all that things and caused me a lot of damage, but now i´m have a better life and i can tell you my treatment.
Regard,
Rosy

Hi I have had this problem too, sometimes my voice practically goes altogether. I am seeing my rheumy on 27 Nov, so hoping for something positive. Was only diagnosed in July, on 12.5mg MXT and tramadol. Not working so far. Just keep getting told to wait and see. Its ridiculous to send you from one to the other, and never getting anywhere with treatment. Good luck with getting a new rheumy, take care

It sounds like you may have a longterm problem with systemic candidiasis, that's intestinal and if untreated, can cause many, many problems--many that you mention. Look into it and see what you think. All the symptoms that are piling up are not all due to RA. I agree with the other poster, your Rheumy is killing you. Consider that you have another issue and you may be able to deal with it yourself. It's worth it to try! Best of luck--there are plenty of good internet research areas on candidiasis.

By the way, esophogeal candidiasis is fairly common and would make you hoarse. As I said, this may be a systemic problem for you.
