Had my fistula surgery on Thursday. Bad news is after all that 2 drs working together couldn't find a fistula. Dr said I just need to keep taking the antibiotics every day (which I've been taking for months) until we knock out the infection. I made an appt with my PCP and am going to get the name of an infectious disease specialist. This is gone on way too long. I'm still pretty sore from the surgery but on the mend. I have an appt next week with a breast oncology surgeon. The big problem now is that the RA is making the plastic surgeons not willing to consider some of the reconstruction options. Plus they say I would have to go off of every one of my meds. I called the RA dr today and am waiting for a call back to see what she thinks. I may end up with no reconstruction at all. If so I will see if the drs will reconsider if I heal well from the mastectomys. Has anyone out there had breast reconstruction at the same time as RA?
Cindy

Cindy - I am so sorry you are going through so much right now. I just wanted to let you know I personally have not had to go through breast cancer/reconstructive surgery with RA, however, one of my closest friends did go through it a few years ago. I know she, too, had to stop all her meds, but she did make it through the reconstructive surgery. And she's had really bad RA for over 30 years and been on everything under the sun for it. I'm hoping this will be helpful for you to know.
You are one strong woman to have the stamina you display. Please know I will hold you in my prayers today ... and in the days to come. Please keep posting and letting us know how you are. Pam

((( HUGS ))). Hang in there. This is such a rough patch. Call the onc that gave you the Rituxan. They know the good infectious disease (IDs) Drs. I don't think my PCP would have a clue who really is good. My onc referred me to one. She was top notch. In fact, she was the first one to figure out that my 105 deg. fever was not from an infection. Finally, we figured out it was a drug reaction. But, she said it days before.
Sending prayers that tomorrow is a better day.

I'm sorry that the surgery was disappointing. I hope the breast surgery goes well and they are able to accomplish adequate reconstruction. My prayers are on the way for you. God bless

Cindy dear,
I'm so sorry you had to undergo unnecessary surgery. That must be twice as painful!
I would have thought that the fistula would show up on colonoscopy or lower GI barium xrays.
Try to rest and recuperate, and wait for your rheumy to tell you what drugs you can use waiting for the breast surgery. I believe you can take prednisone and pain meds if you have to go off your RA medications.
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers,
Hugs,
Gramma Ellie
