Last Thursday I had to help unload the truck at work. Most of the freight coming off the truck was pretty heavy. Then for 6 or so hours after we got the freight off the truck we stocked shelves. Half way through my shift I knew I had over done it but there wasn't anything I could do besides continuing to work. I got home and was miserable. There was no sign of a knee cap in my knee region because they were so swollen. I am currently on 20mg of prednisone daily and tramadol as needed. I had Friday off because it was my Orencia day. Because of the slight reaction I have to the Orencia, I take 60mg of prednisone and a benadryl. Despite the 60mg of prednisone I was still pretty miserable all day. I ended up having to take an additional 5mg so I could get into a comfortable position to sleep. I was so uncomfortable I was to the point of tears. Saturday and Sunday both I had to take a total of 25mg of prednisone to get through work. Yesterday was pretty rough as well, but I was able to make it through with the 20mg of prednisone and tramadol.

To top off the physical stress from work, the weather has changed dramatically. It dropped 20 degrees over the period of 2 days and is now in the lower 30's when I wake up. I think it was the combination that has caused my flare.

Thank God I have today off to rest and relax. The rest of the work week should go smoothly since I only work Wednesday and Saturday. I can't wait until I am able to get a job as a graphic designer. I am not cut out for physical labor.

One more thing, my mom is having knee surgery on Friday. She has torn the cartilage to shreds from 23+ years of being on her feet as a nurse. She also has a Baker's cyst that they are going to drain as well. Please pray for her.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I will keep both you and your mom in my prayers. I'm sorry you're having to push yourself so hard. Get lots of rest before you have to go in to work again.

Steph,

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know you need the work, but I just hope it's not too physical a job for you. Perhaps the workload for stocking will lighten up after the holidays. Have you heard anything more about the possibility of working in the custom framing department? I know you're in a difficult situation, and I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

As to your family, I hope your mom's surgery goes well. I've also been meaning to ask about your sister. Some time ago you posted about her challenges with the living arrangements at college. How has she been coping with the situation? She's fortunate to have such a caring sister.

Please rest well!
Take Care,
Pam

Steph - I am sorry you are flaring again. I think I am also, although I try to deny it! I was awake several times during the night with horrible leg cramps. My knees were hurting last night and worse today. Hands are also hurting. All my toes hurt! That's really weird. I've also been getting a huge cramp in my neck and that leads to a headache. I think it's the cold weather - the last couple of days have been sunny but colder than they have been. Today it is only 48 now. I don't remember how my joints dealt with the cold last year - and we sure had plenty! I'm trying really hard to get off Medrol and am down to 4 mg. I really don't want to increase now that I am so low. Don't get my 3rd Remicade until the 13th. Hope I can make it without increasing the Medrol. Usually, I can get along just fine but these last two days have been getting worse and worse. Just popped a Vicodin, which I hate to use but feel like I need it to get through today. I don't like to complain, but I sure don't like this! Hope we both start feeling better real soon!

Dear Steph,

OUCH! I could possibly unload a truck with help, but no way could I then stock all the shelves. Does your supervisor know about your RA, and that your stamina isn't as good as it should be? There ought to be a way for you to take a short break when you need it.

But I understand that any job is a good job in this economy!

Weren't they talking about giving you a transfer to the framing shop? I'll pray that it comes through for you.

I got my Remicade today so I have lots of extra spoons and I'm sending them all to you! Try to hang on.

Hugs & Prayers,

Gramma Ellie

Hi Steph.

I thought about you this morning. I am so sorry you are having a rough time. I can't imagine unloading a truck and stocking shelves in your condition. I did that years ago on one of my part time jobs. It was back-breaking. And I didn't have RA then.

I'm praying that you'll be able to get a job in your field. In this economy it's probably hard, if not impossible, to find the ideal job. But I sure pray that your ideal job comes along soon. Hang in there, sweetie. Better days are ahead.

I'm sending hugs and prayers your way. I'm praying for your family as well.

Oh Steph,

I do hope you are feeling a little better today. I feel for you girl! I have been there done that. I know what it like to not be able to see your knee caps. My goodness you sound like you work at Kraft Maid. I do not know how you work like that. But I wish you the best for today and everyday. I keep hoping I can find a job. But I don't know what to do. Anyhow I really really hope your feeling better soon. I just do not like to read or hear about someone having such a bad flare up. My thoughts are with you today and always. Best wishes to you today!

Thank you all for your prayers and spoons! After a day of rest yesterday, I feel much better than I have been. I hope going back to work this afternoon does not do me in.

Several of you asked about the frame shop position. They are still trying to decide what to do to fill vacancies. I may not end up there after all because at times I may need to lift 50+lb boxes of glass for the frames. Depending on the day, there are times where I can't even lift a gallon of milk. But we will see what happens.

Thank you all again,
Steph

Hi Steph,

I had an idea that came from my husband's photography business. It might offer you some part time income. There are several companies in our area who do graphic designs for the super-cheap commercials and make up brochures.

We often supply print photos to some of these firms. I wonder if there is something available like that in your area? Maybe ask at the print shops or the real estate companies. I'm sure they can't afford to advertise positions.

Just an idea to give your knees a break.

Hugs,
Gramma Ellie

Steph I had a job once with Talbots and they require each new store's employee's to unload the trucks of furniture and displays and clothing. Not many showed up for the even so the ones of us there had double the work. I really felt my back burn and I knew I'd hurt it but needed this job so I kept going. I worked for about five months with that back injury and not saying anything until I got an offer for a better job. The supervisor I worked with there died two weeks after I took another job, of complications of Lupus, she was only 35 years old. I remember hearing that and feeling so sad for her because she did complain a lot about being in pain ....The other women made fun of her all the time...I think everyone learned to take Lupus more seriously there. Now I too have Lupus and it's scares me. I think when you have auto-immune pain you have ot be very careful. I'm glad you got through this okay with just resting. Your in my prayers Steph and you mom as well..

BLESS YOU HON
BEKAH
