OK, so my daughter started Kindergarten this year. She finally adapted to not getting a nap; but today we recieved an email from her teacher that she fell asleep during carpet reading. I don't know if this is related to her arthritis or not. Last week she was home with a fever and slept most of the day. So it could be this as well. She goes to bed a 8pm and sleeps right through her sister's antics.

Did any of you have similar issues with your child; if so how did you handle it?

We just don't know what to do. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks.

'Falling asleep in class' and 'falling asleep during kindergarten carpet reading' are two very different things, in my opinion!

Both of my daughter's kindergarten classes had carpet reading for the very purpose of letting those who still needed a nap be able to take one. The teachers usually try to break the habit by Christmas break, as I recall.

I would be concerned if the teacher reports that she has trouble waking up, but it seems age appropriate to sometimes doze off while lying on the carpet being read to. Especially if they don't like the story or have already heard it several times.
